As we continue to monitor and refine our new NEST (Necessary Enrichment Study Time) program, we will be making a slight adjustment. Moving forward, students with grades of 59 or below will be assigned mandatory NEST. Teachers may still assign students to NEST as needed for missing work or other academic concerns. Please continue to monitor Parent Portal for updates regarding grades and missing assignments.
Attendance - Recapture Seat Time!
✅ Attendance policies. Please watch the this video for full details on District Five’s updated procedures for Seat Time and Truancy, especially if you are the parent of a new student to Chapin High School.
Key Points:
- Seat Time: Max 10 absences in a year-long course or 5 in a semester course. All absences (medical, parent note, suspension, etc.) count toward this limit. Absences 11-20 in a year-long class or 6-10 in a semester class will require seat time recapture to be completed. Exceeding the limit results in a grade of FA (Failure due to Absence) and a 0.0 GPA value unless seat time is made up during recapture sessions ($15/hour). All absences are reviewed by the Attendance Review Committee, and you will receive a notification letter if your child has excessive absences.
Our first Recapture session will be Thursday, November 13th from 4:00pm -6:00pm, then Saturday, December 13th and then all Semester Classes seat time have to be recaptured on or before Saturday, January 24th, 2026.
Parent Notes are UNEXCUSED. You will receive an email if you owe recapture.
