Safety Spotlight — Building Security

Safe and secure school campuses is a top priority for the West Linn-Wilsonville School District. This means that, during school hours, all perimeter doors at schools are kept locked except for the front entrance where the school office is located. Parents and visitors are expected to stop at the front office to sign in, print, and wear a badge. District staff wear lanyards at all times to identify their role as employees. West Linn-Wilsonville works hard to balance a safe and welcoming environment with a safe and secure entrance.

In addition to safe and secure entryways, all schools are equipped with lockdown hardware, which allows all perimeter and classroom doors to be locked with the touch of a button. West Linn High School and Trillium Creek Primary are scheduled to receive lockdown hardware upgrades this summer (2023). Every district building has an intrusion detection security system, and schools also have recently upgraded intercom systems which provide pre-recorded safety messaging that alert school staff and district-level administrators in real time. Video surveillance is also in place in key areas across school campuses.

West Linn-Wilsonville schools also have two School Resource Officers (SROs) — one for each side of the district. SROs are stationed at West Linn High School and Wilsonville High School, but they also check in with all WLWV schools on a regular basis, attending special events as requested by administrators. Learn more about safety and security by visiting the district website.

Riverside High School Enrollment Still Open

Incoming 9th grade and 10th grade students can still choose to attend Riverside High School at any time prior to the start of the 2023-24 school year, even if they've already forecasted for classes at another district high school. Any current 8th and 9th grade student who lives in or is currently enrolled in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District is eligible to enroll at Riverside for next school year.

Students can still enroll through the inter-district transfer process found on the district website. The inter-district transfer process is quick and easy for families.

Riverside will open as a small comprehensive high school with International Baccalaureate, three new Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways, and co-curricular activities including select athletics. Interested students can check out the curriculum guide, including courses that will be offered next year, by visiting the Riverside High School website.

High School Opt-In Busing Begins in 2023-24

Starting next school year (2023-24), all high schools will move to an opt-in busing system. This means that busing will be provided for high school students who plan to be regular bus riders and who opt-in. Students who do not opt-in, because they rarely or never need bus service, are welcome to ride the bus on existing bus routes that are posted on the district website.

Current 8th-11th graders who are eligible for busing will receive an email in the coming days with a link to sign up for a bus if they are eligible. To review the reasons for opt-in busing, who is eligible for a bus, and other pertinent information can visit the district website.
