Taking Stock: June 2025

June 2025
Stockwell Priorities
- To ensure our children are happy and we explain things well
- To ensure no child leaves our school unable to read
- To ensure children learn a broad vocabulary to access the world around them
- To enhance the educational experiences of diagnosed and undiagnosed children with SEND
We are now half way through the final half term of the year and the first half has been jam-packed with events and experiences for the community. It is so important that parents and carers come into the school regularly, so that we can build relationships.
From academic progress and extracurricular accomplishments to school events and community initiatives, this half term has truly showcased the hard work, creativity, and resilience of our entire school community. I have been reading reports that the teachers have been hard at work writing, and it is wonderful to see the progress that the children are making. Reports will be going out to parents on Friday 18th July, so please keep an eye on your child's book bag.
There is still lots to come this half term, so please check the term dates, letters and the school calendar regularly.
Than you to everyone that came along to join in this celebration. It brought everyone together and certainly started the term off in style.
We held our first Father Figure Friday. This was a day for the men in our pupils' lives to come and spend time in school, taking part in activities alongside their children. They played cards, board games, took part in races and, of course, rounded off with a football match.
It was a marvellous afternoon and it was delightful to see so many father figures in attendance. A number of those in attendance have joined a Father Figure Whatsapp group, so that we can get the ball rolling with having this as a monthly event. Please get in touch if you would like to join the group to find out more about the next event and how you can get involved.
I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, and from what I could see, so did those in attendance. I'm already looking forward to the next one.
Mr Hirsch and Mr Osman did a fantastic job at getting everything organised for our EYFS, KS1 and KS2 Sports Days.
KS2 Sports Day took place at Brockwell Park. After a brilliant afternoon of hurdling, sprinting, navigating the obstacle course, throwing javelins and much, much more, the children sat down to watch the final sprints. The whole afternoon had a glorious sense of both competition and fun and, after some swift calculations from Miss Boateng and Mrs Congdon, the Blue Kingfishers were crowned the winners for KS2.
The KS1 and EYFS event was held in school. Thank you to everyone that came along and got involved. It was a tremendous sporting morning and the children did a brilliant job, taking part in the various events around the school playground. The Sports Leaders were fantastic role models, demonstrating the activities for the younger children and calculating the scores. At the end of a fabulous morning, The Green Woodpeckers were victorious.
Pre-School Sports Day took place at the end of the week and what an event it was. The team had created a wonderful mini arena for the children and they thoroughly enjoyed their egg and spoon races, the obstacle course, the net and ball race and the mums' and dads' races. Well done to the pre-school team for organising such a great morning.
We took part in the BLC Spelling Bee again this year. After fighting off some fierce competition from the other schools, I am proud to announce that we won. Well done Team Stockwell!
We hosted out fourth annual Year 6 BJS Federation Transition Social. The children from Stockwell, Jessop and Bonneville came together to think about the next stage in their schooling and how to manage the transition to secondary school.
After some ice-breaker, warm up activities, led by Mr Baffoe, the children thought about what makes them the people they are and the values that are most important to them. Each child thought about the friends they have, and what they will need in order to be successful.
The Year 6s spent the day in groups according to their new schools, so they will meet familiar faces when they make the move.
The children worked incredibly well together and all of the adults present remarked that they had navigated the day with great maturity. It was awesome to see all of the children together, discussing their experiences and thinking about what would make their secondary school experiences 'Sensational'. I cannot wait to see them take this next step.
Any child in the school will tell you that Class Assemblies are some of my favourite things that happen at Stockwell. I am always filled with pride when the children are on the stage, speaking clearly and confidently, and sharing their learning. This term has been no exception. Year 1 took us on a journey to the seaside and retold the story of the Storm Whale. Year 4 taught us all about the Industrial Revolution and how the Education Act changed the lives of children.
I cannot wait to experience the remaining class assemblies and, of course, we also have Year 5's carnival and Year 6's end of year play still to come.
After our summer Enterprise event, I am delighted to let you know that every class made a profit by the end of the year.
Please check the dates below as we still have lots in store before the end of term.
Please be careful when crossing the main road at the front of the school. Stockwell Road is very busy and a number of parents, carers and children have been seen running across the road and dodging through traffic. Please make sure that you wait for the lights and cross at the crossing. Better yet, make use of the School Street at the back of the school, which is pedestrianised for the children's safety.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind ALL parents and carers to come and speak to the staff around the school if there is something that is upsetting you or your child. Please do not approach parents, or children, on school grounds to address issues yourself. This results in great upset and is totally inappropriate. Please ensure that this does not occur and that all interactions in school are polite.
Have a brilliant day everyone. I look forward to seeing you around the school.
Sports Update
In very exciting news, one of our very own children has signed to play for Crystal Palace Academy. He has represented the school at a number of events throughout the year and has been going to Crystal Palace regularly throughout the year.
Earlier this month he and his family received the exciting news and went along to the signing.
Well done! We are all incredibly proud of you and look forward to hearing about what comes next!

It's about not bragging or being proud, but instead being thankful and acknowledging that everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness.

A Whole School Approach to Anti Bullying and Online Safety
YouTube Kids is designed to be the safer cousin of the regular YouTube app; however, built-in risks continue to pose concerns. From targeted advertising to addictive design, there’s more going on behind the scenes than many realise. This copy of #WakeUpWednesday guide breaks it all down.
Whether it’s inappropriate content slipping past filters or tech-savvy kids bypassing parental settings, YouTube Kids still needs careful oversight.
This guide from The National College provides clear, easy-to-follow tips to help adults keep young users protected while still enjoying their favourite videos
Parent and Carer Support
Friends of Stockwell (FOS) PTA
We have an active PTA, called Friends of Stockwell, who do a brilliant job of fundraising for the school and bringing the community together. It is great to see new faces taking part. Every parent is a Friend of Stockwell. I ask that everyone gets involved. If you can spare an hour per term (that's three hours per year), your contribution would make a huge difference.
Please email friendsofstockwell@gmail.com to get involved.
FOS Update
The Summer Fair is going ahead.
If you are able to lend a hand, please get in touch with friendsofstockwell@gmail.com to find out more about what this would involve.
Call to Action
Can you help out around the school? Are you a keen gardener? Do you have skills or knowledge that the children would benefit from? Visit our Call to Action page to let us know how you can help.
Attendance
Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.
There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.
We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.
If your child arrives at school from 9am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am, they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.
Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.
Holidays in Term Time
Education Law states that it is not a parent’s right to take a child out of school during term time to go on holiday. Families must seek permission from the school and your school’s Headteacher is limited in what they can authorise. We can authorise leave if a child is in a performance and a performance license has been granted by the local authority. For any other authorised holiday, there must be extenuating circumstances therefore we cannot authorise a holiday because it is cheaper outside of term time.
Attendance Winners
For the third month in a row, whole school attendance is 96%.
Particular well done to Year 4, with both classes managing 100% attendance.
Keep up the good work everyone!
EYFS Attendance Winners
RH - 96%
KS1 Attendance Winners
2M - 98%
LKS2 Attendance Winners
4B and 4H - 100%
UKS2 Attendance Winners
5H - 99%
School Uniform
School uniform should be worn throughout the school day. While we do not enforce that all school uniform should be branded, children should be wearing the correct colours (white t-shirt tops, navy trousers/ skirts/ pinafore dresses, sensible black shoes). Football boots/ coloured trainers are not school uniform and should not be worn.
Children should be changing into their PE kits for PE lessons (blue or black tracksuit bottoms, plain white t-shirt, trainers). We have made arrangements for girls and boys to be able to change separately, so the expectation is that all children change for PE.
While our supplier of school uniform is WearAbouts, we do have some items available for sale from the school office. Please check with us to see if we have what you need in stock.
Reporting a Concern
If you have a concern, please see your child's class teacher in the first instance.
If they are unable to resolve the problem, please speak to your child's phase leader.
If they are unable to help, please see one of the school's Assistant Headteachers.
If you are still dissatisfied, please see the Head of School.

Fostering in Lambeth
A new child comes into care every day in Lambeth. Many of these children will need the love and stability that a foster carer can provide.
What is fostering?
Being a foster parent means caring for someone else’s child as part of your family. Foster carers look after children who are unable to live with their parents, through no fault of their own. You'll be given lots of training and support, as well as allowances to cover living costs, the costs of food, travel and for the time you'll need to invest in supporting any child in your care.
Who can foster?
Lambeth Fostering welcome applications from everyone with a passion for caring. You just need to be over 21, have a spare room, good written and spoken English, and permanent UK residency.
