Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Open House yesterday! It was wonderful to see so many families in the building, reconnecting with teachers and exploring classrooms. We appreciate you taking the time to come and be part of our school community.

I also want to share an update about morning arrival. Based on your feedback, we now have staff on duty at the playground starting at 7:20 each morning. Families are welcome to pull through the drive and drop off students to head directly to the playground, where they will be supervised. This option helps keep students safer, reduces the need for parking, and keeps traffic moving smoothly. Students on the playground will come inside between 7:30 and 7:35. I encourage you to give this a try and talk it through with your child beforehand so they know what to expect.

Warmly,
Kolby Snellenberger
Principal

Hello families,

This year, Mr. Torrez and I are bringing music lessons right into the classroom with our special music cart. Our goal is to help students grow into tuneful, beautiful, and artful young musicians.

So far, we’ve been exploring:

  • Four Voices (speaking, whispering, calling, singing)

  • Simple Songs & Echo Singing to build strong, confident singing voices

  • Keeping a Steady Beat through songs

  • Rhythm Sticks to play along with classical music

  • Expressive Movement to show mood and feeling in music

Our Weekly Grade-Level Sing-Along has also begun. Students gather in the gym for 30 minutes of joyful singing as we build our repertoire together. We’ve been having so much fun, and it’s a joy to watch the children grow in their musicality!

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out:

  • Megumi Esselstrom – messelstrom@ewsd.org (Tuesday/Thursday/Friday classes)

  • Matt Torrez – mtorrez@ewsd.org (Wednesday classes)

Warmly,
Megumi Esselstrom & Matt Torrez

Message from Mr. B. in Gym Message from Mr. B. in Gym

Hello Hiawatha Families,

Over the summer we were fortunate and acquired balance/pedal bikes for PE! All K-1st grade students will practice riding the week of Monday, September 29th. If your child has their own helmet, please bring them in. If you don’t own a helmet, do not feel obligated to purchase one, as we will have some that can be borrowed. We will disinfect helmets between usages. In addition, please have them prepared with closed toe shoes. If you have any questions, please let me know.
