Dear Schweitzer Families,

A few important reminders as we get ready for Halloween! 🐝🎃

🍬 Haunted Hallways Candy Contest: We are still collecting candy for our Haunted Hallways Candy Contest! Thank you to everyone who has already donated. There is still time to contribute and help your child’s class!

👻 Halloween Parade – October 30: As students prepare for our Halloween parade, please remember that costumes must be school-appropriate. No blood, guts, or overly scary costumes, please!

📱 Communication & Pick-Up Changes: ClassDojo is the best way to communicate with your child’s teacher. However, teachers may not see messages right away while teaching lessons and caring for students. If you have a last-minute change to your child’s pick-up plans, please call the main office to ensure the message reaches your child’s teacher in time.

💊 Student Medication: Any student who needs an inhaler or other medication at school must have a medication form completed by their doctor and on file with the school. Students may not carry or use inhalers or other medications at school unless the required paperwork is on file. Please reach out to the office with any questions or for help with this process.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support! We appreciate our Schweitzer families and look forward to a fun and safe Halloween season!💛🖤🐝

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. The best way to get in touch with me is through email, faasoae@wwcsd.net, or Class Dojo messaging.

Sincerely,

Emily Fa'asoa, Schweitzer Principal

HELP KEEP OUR STUDENTS SAFE HELP KEEP OUR STUDENTS SAFE

🚌Wayne-Westland Community Schools is launching a new school bus safety program with @buspatrol to help make our roads safer for students.

As part of the program, we’ve added stop-arm cameras to our school bus fleet. These cameras can detect vehicles that fail to stop when a school bus is stopped with its stop arm extended.

🚨Important dates:

Now through September 27: Warning period

Beginning September 28: Local law enforcement will begin enforcing violations

When you see a school bus with its stop arm extended, STOP. Give students the time and space they need to safely get on and off the bus.

Together, we can help protect our students and make every trip to and from school safe.

Start the Year with Strong Attendance Habits

The beginning of the school year is the perfect time to establish routines that make getting to school on time easier. Families can help by:

  • Set a consistent bedtime and wake-up time. A regular sleep schedule can help students get the rest they need to be ready for school.

  • Prepare the night before. Pack backpacks, choose clothes and gather anything your student needs before bedtime.

  • Build in extra time. Give your family a few extra minutes in the morning to avoid a rushed start.

  • Keep track of important dates. Know the school calendar, including start and end times, half days and scheduled breaks.

Communicate when challenges arise. If transportation, health, family circumstances, or other barriers are making attendance difficult, talk with your school. Your attendance team is here to help.

Aim for 8 - Wayne-Westland Community Schools Attendance Campaign

AIM FOR 8 ATTENDANCE CAMPAIGN AIM FOR 8 ATTENDANCE CAMPAIGN

Every school day matters! This year, Wayne-Westland Community Schools is launching the Aim for 8 Attendance Campaign to encourage students and families to prioritize regular attendance.

Our goal is simple: Aim for 8 or fewer absences during the school year.

When students are in school every day, they have more opportunities to learn, build relationships, participate in activities and stay on track for success. Even a few missed days can add up and make a difference.

PARENT CONNECTION UPDATE DIRECTIONS PARENT CONNECTION UPDATE DIRECTIONS

  • All Families MUST Update/Verify Contact Information in Parent Connection each year. *If you recently registered your Kindergarten student, you have already done this.
  • Log in to your ParentPortal using your PIN and password and click on the “Back to School Registration” link at the top of the page.
  • CLICK HERE WWCS PARENT CONNECTION
  • Click through each link confirming or changing any information and then click "submit and save."
  • If you have more than one student, you MUST repeat this process for each child so that we have accurate contact information for each student in an emergency.
  • There is a section in Parent Connection asking if you want transportation (you have to live more than 1 mile from the school to be eligible). If your dwelling meets these qualifications and you want your child to ride the bus, you MUST check YES or a bus route will NOT be assigned.
