A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Self Awareness and finding your inner calm! π§
This month, we are discussing what self-awareness means for students at school. Students are learning ways they can stay calm using these strategies. Grounding ourselves in our seats with strong feet on the floor and taking three deep breaths in and three deep breaths out, can help us stay calm when we are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, sad, or even angry. We are also learning about how yoga and breathwork can help us find our inner calm. Students enjoyed learning three poses in the classroom: strong mountain, tree pose, and the warrior pose. Our classroom teachers try to build in time each day for students to practice finding mindfulness and calm moments.
Mic Drop Moments! π€
At PES, we are recognizing studentβs βmic dropβ moments. Some examples of mic drop moments could be: A classroom was working hard together to complete a task! A student got a high score on a quiz or test! A classmate did something really kind! Your teacher is amazing! Your classroom earned an extra recess for completing all work! Classroom teachers or students can nominate individual students, staff or classrooms to have a special mic drop moment shoutout over the announcements. Mic drop moments come with a certificate and a squishable microphone (use for one day only). We will also share our mic drop moments on our school facebook page.
Dress Up Day! π₯»
Next Thursday is an optional opportunity for students to dress up for school. Here are a few reminders - please do not send students to school with:
Scary outfits
Makeup, face paint, or masks
Blow up costumes
Props or weapons
Great Start! π
Thank you to our regular volunteers that make Great Start possible. This program serves a huge need in our community in regards to before school care. If you are available and interested in helping out, please contact the main office. This regular weekly time for students to play and grow together helps to build our strong school community.
Halloween Candy! π
We highly encourage parents/guardians not to send students to school with Halloween candy. This should be something they get to enjoy at home. Thank you so much for your support!
BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION DAY
We've chosen Friday, October 25th, as our Bus Driver Appreciation Day, though every day we can show how much we appreciate them by being polite, safe and always following the bus rules. Feel free to write or draw your driver a note of appreciation and thanks for getting us safely to and from school every day. Thank you Miss Robin, Mr. Vande, and First Student, for getting our students safely to and from school every day! We appreciate you! π
INTERNET SAFETY NIGHT
Date: Monday, November 4th
Time: 6:00-7:00pm
Location: Montgomery Auditorium, Morse High School/Bath Tech
RSU1 and the Sagadahoc Sheriff's Office have partnered together to invite parents, guardians, and caregivers to an Internet Safety Night. Come learn how to talk to students about what they see on the internet, as well as ways they can avoid being victimized on the internet. The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office, a local affiliate of Maine State Police Computer Crimes, has been working with RSU1 to share internet safety presentations to its students. These presentations cover privacy and security on the internet, good citizenship, and social media use. This new presentation is designed for adults trying to guide and safeguard their students online.
