Principal's Corner
Dear Hirsch Hawk Families,
We are just 7 school days away from the first round of STAAR testing! As we gear up for this important time of year, we want to keep you informed and involved in your child’s academic journey.
What is STAAR and what do the achievement levels mean?
STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills in their grade level. Students receive results based on the following achievement levels:
🔵 Did Not Meet Grade Level – This means your child did not demonstrate enough understanding of grade-level content and is unlikely to succeed in the next grade without significant academic support.
🟡 Approaches Grade Level – Your child has some understanding of the content but may need extra help in certain areas to be fully ready for the next grade.
🟢 Meets Grade Level – Your child shows strong understanding of the material and is likely to succeed in the next grade with minimal support.
⭐ Masters Grade Level – Your child shows excellent understanding and is well-prepared for the next grade and beyond.
We encourage you to goal set with your child at home. Ask them where they want to be on each test, and how they can take steps every day to get there. Whether it's reading each night, practicing math facts, or reviewing test-taking strategies, your partnership in keeping them focused and motivated is powerful.
Even if your child isn’t in a testing grade yet, there’s still value in setting academic goals. Ask your child:
-
What do you want to be able to do in reading by the end of the year?
-
How many math facts can you solve in one minute? Can you beat your record?
-
What’s something you’ve learned this year that you’re really proud of?
Heads up! Campus closed to visitors April 15–25
To maintain a secure and quiet testing environment, Hirsch Elementary will be closed to visitors from April 15 through April 25. Please plan accordingly—we appreciate your support in helping us create the best possible setting for our students to show what they know!
🎉 Assistant Principal Appreciation Week 🎉
This week, we celebrate the amazing Ms. Williams during Assistant Principal Appreciation Week! Ms. Williams works tirelessly to support our students, staff, and families every single day. Whether she’s helping a student navigate a tough moment, supporting a teacher with instructional planning, organizing testing schedules, or greeting families with a warm smile, her impact is everywhere on campus.
She brings heart, strength, and wisdom to her work—and Hirsch wouldn’t be the same without her. We are grateful for her leadership, her dedication, and the way she makes our school a better place each and every day. If you see her this week, take a moment to say “thank you” and show her some love!
Let’s keep working together to make these next few weeks strong, focused, and encouraging for all our students. Thank you for being such a valuable part of our Hirsch community!
With gratitude,
Principal Patterson

Attendance is so important for student success. Hirsch Elementary is committed to encouraging students to come to school everyday. Each grade level is participating in weekly and monthly attendance contests to see who has the highest attendance. Classes and grade levels with the highest attendance will get a reward! Everyday attendance equals everyday success. Thank you for partnering with us for your child's success.
