Child Care Chalkboard
June 1-30
Don't forget!
We will be closed on Monday, June 8 for our teacher in-service. We will start the summer program on Tuesday, June 9.
Blast into summer event
*This year we will have a coffee truck available to purchase drinks while you're here!*
Ice Cream Wagon
Once a week the Youth Center children will visit the other classrooms for the opportunity to purchase Popsicles and Ice Cream Treats after snack (sometime between 3:30 and 4:30). The treats will cost $.75-$2.00. We will provide Otter Pops for anyone who does not have money. If you would like to bring $5 or $10, we would be happy to keep this in an envelope for your child to use each week. We will let you know when it runs low. Look for the "ICW" (Ice Cream Wagon) in our field trip section to find out what day it will take place each week.
Items Needed Daily for Summer
Sunscreen will be applied by the teachers every four hours starting at 10:00. To ensure your child is protected, please make sure to apply sunscreen before or upon arrival each morning. If you have not done so, the teachers will ask you to do so before you leave.
2. Swimsuit and towel (Please label)
Please make sure your child has a swimsuit available each day. Even if a water event is not scheduled on the newsletter, the teachers may choose to do a water activity. If you take the swimsuit home to wash, don't forget to bring it back the next day.
3. Water Bottle (Please label)
Please send a water bottle that will not leak when we are on field trips. We will wash the water bottles every week in the dishwasher. This allows for them to stay here the entire week so they do not get forgotten at home.
Buffalo Gnats
It has been brought to our attention that Buffalo Gnats are causing problems again this year. "Black flies (buffalo gnats) are small dark flies that come out during early summer and late spring. Buffalo gnat bites can cause itchiness and pain for many days. They often bite people around their necks and heads. Black fly bites on humans look similar to a mosquito bite. They cause swollen bumps on the skin that are small and red in appearance. These bumps are also very painful and itchy, becoming fluid-filled blisters in some cases. Black fly bites on humans can have different reactions, such as a tiny puncture wound or a huge swelling on the skin. If you are experiencing only minor black fly bite symptoms, here are some ways to treat them: Soap and water, Cold compress, Antihistamines, or Anti-itch creams."
One of our teachers has found that Citronella Insect Repellant bracelets and necklaces seem to help keep these flies away from her daughter.
Spring Clean-up Day
Thank you so much to all who joined us for Spring Clean-up Day! We were able to accomplish much because of your help.

Field Trips
We ask that you please read any descriptions in the online newsletter to see if there are special items your child needs. We will also list a price for some of the field trips. This price will be added to your bill so that you do not need to bring cash on that day. There are a few Youth Center and Beehive field trips in which your child is allowed to bring cash for concessions. These will be specified in the description. If you are bringing cash for concessions please make sure the teacher is aware so they can keep it in a secure location. If any field trips need to be cancelled or changed we will post a sign at the appropriate building stating such.
Summer Registration Fee
On your June bill you will notice a charge for the Summer Registration Fee. You paid all or part of this fee at registration so you will also see a credit that was applied in May. This fee is meant to cover the cost of Mountain Climber (they charge $1 each way), or the van and bus gas and maintenance. It also covers any art supplies.
International Mud Day
International Mud Day began in 2009 at a World Forum event, when Gillian McAuliffe from Australia and Bishnu Bhatta from Nepal got together to talk about ways to encourage feelings of community and appreciation for the world around us. The collaboration that followed has inspired educators, children, and families across the globe, from Holland to Nepal to the United States, to celebrate International Mud Day together each year on June 29.

Gym Use
We will have opportunities to use the school gym throughout the summer. Each group will have a set time in which they may or may not use the gym each day. There will also be some other random times in which a group may be scheduled to use the gym for a special activity. These will be listed in the field trip section. The gym is located to the west of the church, south of the school. Since the doors are typically locked, the best way to enter they gym is by calling the classroom cell phone. SD 5 Mobile Meals
School District 5 will once again be offering free lunch for anyone 18 and younger. We will be able to take any children interested to Russell School at 12:35 to get a lunch. They will then return to the childcare to eat lunch with the rest of the class. If you decide to take advantage of this, please be aware of which days it will not work. If we have a field trip that in any way conflicts with the mobile meal then you will be required to send a sack lunch with your child. Please look at the newsletter to determine if we will be gone during the mobile meal times, or if we are eating lunch early/late to accommodate a field trip. You can click the button below to see the mobile meal times and menu.
