Greetings

We have had a great beginning of the year at Miami Trace Middle School! The staff has been busy reviewing procedures, expectations, and policies, as well as important content curricula. We are becoming comfortable with our established educational routine. Students have received our annual MTMS Safety Training. Students will continue to review safety procedures by participating in various safety drills throughout the year. We encourage you to contact the middle school if you have any questions or concerns. We truly appreciate your support, trust, and flexibility as we work to make MTMS a great place for your child.

5 Tips for Middle School Parents

1. Encourage excellent attendance.

The doors open at 7:05 a.m. at MTMS. Students may sit in the cafeteria until 7:15 a.m. when the bell rings. Students must be in their first-period class by 7:34 a.m. Our day ends at 2:30 p.m. Please report student absences to the middle school and provide a professional note (doctor, etc.) when available.

2. Be familiar with the school's policies and procedures.

3. Attend Parent Teacher Conference nights.

- September 28, 2023 (3 - 6:30 p.m.)

- January 25, 2023 (3 - 6:30 p.m.)

* Contact the school to schedule an appointment with your child's teachers.

4. Limit and monitor your child's social media time.

Many issues that arise during the day at MTMS start the night before while students are on social media. Social media tends to increase student anxiety, depression, and school conflict.

5. Speak to your child about his or her school day.

Middle School, in general, is a tough time. It is important to find out what is going on. Work to instruct your children about how to work through issues and problems calmly and effectively. Encourage your child to speak to a staff member if something is bothering him or her.
