First Day of School Expectations for 5th Grade ONLY

We’re excited to welcome our incoming 5th graders to WSTA! The first day may feel new for both students and families, so here are a few important things to know:

Morning Arrival & Breakfast

  • Breakfast begins at 7:30 AM. Families are welcome to walk their 5th grader into the building and may stay with them in the cafeteria if they would like.
  • At 8:05 AM, the bell will ring and students will transition to the library. Teachers and staff will organize students by class before bringing them upstairs to their classrooms.
  • At this point, parents and guardians will need to leave the building. Families will not be able to accompany students into the library or upstairs to the classrooms.

Dismissal – Wednesday Schedule

  • On the first day, students will be dismissed at 1:40 PM.
  • We strongly encourage families to make a clear dismissal plan with their student before the first day.
  • Students are not individually handed off to parents or guardians at dismissal. When the dismissal bell rings, students are free to exit the building.
  • Please decide ahead of time where and how you will meet your student after school.

IMPORTANT: Make a dismissal plan with your student before the first day!
With approximately 800 students leaving the building at dismissal, having a clear meeting place will help your student know exactly where to go.

First Day of School Expectations for Grades 6-8

Students in grades 6–8 will follow the regular Wednesday schedule on the first day of school.

Breakfast begins at 7:30 AM, and the school bell rings promptly at 8:05 AM. If your student is new to WSTA, please review the arrival and dismissal information with them ahead of time so they know what to expect.

Recommended School Supplies

Help your student start the school year prepared and ready to learn! We’ve put together a recommended supply list for students in Grades 5–7 with the basic materials they may need throughout the school year.

I serve as the Family Liaison for the Wright Academy in Chelsea Public Schools, where my role is centered on building strong, trusting connections between families, schools, and the broader community. I believe deeply in family empowerment—families have a voice, they should be heard, and they play an essential role as partners in their child’s education. I work closely with families, school staff, and community partners to ensure families feel informed, supported, and connected throughout their school experience.

My passion for this work comes from a belief that families are one of a child's first and most important teachers. When families are engaged, empowered, and included, schools become stronger and students are better positioned to succeed. Being able to support families, advocate for their voices, and help build meaningful partnerships is what makes this work so rewarding.
