Celebration Sunday | September 13th
Joy is a spiritual practice, and so it is time for us to do just that: practice our joy!
We know that the world around us often feels heavy, and so choosing joy, choosing to celebrate, is one of many simple acts of faith we get to do together to help ease that weight.
This year, our community has so many reasons to celebrate, and we want to honor every single one of them. What better way to do that than by coming together to share our gratitude with a Lovefeast and some delicious Moravian Sugar Cake?
When are we celebrating?
Save the date! This special service will take place on September 13th, 2026 at 10:00 AM.
What are YOU celebrating?
We want to lift up ALL the moments of joy in our lives so far this year, no matter the size! So whether your milestone is:
- Big: Retiring, starting a new job, graduating, or finishing a healthcare treatment—
- Or Small: Finally dropping that bag of donations off at Goodwill, keeping a houseplant alive, or consistently stretching in the morning, etc.—
We want to hear about it!
How to Share Your Joys:
Please share your celebrations with us so we can include them in our service! You can submit them in one of two ways:
- On Paper: If you join us in person for worship during the month of August, we will have cards at the back of our sanctuary for you to handwrite your celebrations before placing them in a collection basket.
- Digitally: Click this link if you would like to submit your celebrations online!
Send us your celebrations by September 7th! And then, come hungry for community, joy, and sugar cake on September 13th. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
Griffin Woodard Sextet at The Deer Head Inn
The Griffin Woodard Sextet will be performing a very special night of music at the historic Deer Head Inn on Sunday, September 20, from 5-7:30 PM. The Deer Head Inn is located at 5 Main Street, Delaware Water Gap, PA 18327.
In the first set, they will be performing new arrangements of classic selections from The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings by John Coltrane. These historic recordings feature the powerhouse quintet of John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones, amongst several other prolific guest musicians.
Griffin says that he first heard this music when I began high school at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, 13 years ago. My late teacher, Mr. Greg Eicher, showed us this music in jazz history class, and it changed my life forever. The brilliance, courage, and dedication exemplified by these musicians is simply awe-inspiring, and is a big part of why I became a professional musician and continue on the path. The second set will feature a special selection of original compositions, some of which we will be presenting for the very first time!
Griffin Woodard - bass clarinet
Coleman Rose - tenor saxophone
Evan Francis - flute
Jon Ballantyne - piano
Miles Gilbert - bass
Hugh Kline - drums
Thank you very much for your support and presence in our previous show at The Deer Head, last April. We are very happy to return, and would love for you to come join us. Reservations are required - you may make a reservation by emailing info@deerheadinn.com or calling 570-424-2000. Music charges are paid at the door, $20 cash, $21 credit card. Their grub is fantastic!

Midweek Bible Study
Bible Study Resumes This Thursday (9/3)!
All are invited to join us for our Thursday Morning Bible Study, restarting September 3rd! We meet in person and online at 10:00 AM, so even if you are not able to participate in person, we would love for you to join our discussion! Our current focus is based on the Revised Common Lectionary scriptures for the upcoming Sunday.
Through September and October, we will be focused on the lectionary texts from the book of Exodus, and wrestling with the question: what does it mean for us to follow God into the wilderness, beyond what we know?"

Ways to Give to the Ministries at Calvary
As reminder, there are several different ways to give your offerings here at Calvary.
- Bring your offering to Sunday worship.
- Mail your offering to the church office at 948 N. 21st Street, Allentown, PA 18104.
- Use your bank’s “BILL PAY” service. A one-time or recurring payment can be made by a bank on your behalf. Banks that offer this service typically cut a check and mail it to the church at no cost to you. Contact your bank for details. The bank usually asks for an account number. Just call Calvary office beforehand and Jess will supply an account number to you or just use your envelope number.
- Make an online payment through the Moravian Giving Portal – https://mmfa.info/giving-portal/. Go to this link, click on our church’s name and follow the instructions to make a one-time gift or a recurring monthly gift. Donations can be made by members and non-members via direct debit of a bank account or by credit card. All donation processing fees for portal gifts are now paid by the Moravian Ministries Foundation – your full donation will be received by your church.
