October Character Trait: Trustworthy Human Being 🤝

This month, our Kettering Kids will focus on being a Trustworthy Human Being. Being trustworthy means being someone others can count on—telling the truth, keeping our promises, taking responsibility for our choices, and doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Throughout October, we will be looking for students who demonstrate these qualities in the classroom, on the playground, and throughout our school community. Families, please encourage your Kettering Kid to practice trustworthiness each day and earn Gold Slips along the way! At the end of the month, students who earn Gold Slips may have the opportunity to shop at our Gold Slip Store as a special celebration of their positive choices and character.

A Message from Mrs. Hernandez, Kettering Principal

Dear Kettering Families,

It’s hard to believe we are already heading into October! As we settle into the school year, I am grateful for the energy, partnership, and sense of community I continue to see across our campus. Our Kettering Kids are working hard, building relationships, and showing us each day what it means to Climb Higher.

This month, our character focus is being a Trustworthy Human Being. We will encourage students to be honest, keep their word, take responsibility for their choices, and do what is right—even when no one is watching. These are important habits that help build strong relationships and a school community where everyone feels they can count on one another.

As we move through October, we remain focused on creating possibility, making a positive impact, and strengthening connections for every Kettering Kid. Thank you, families, for your continued partnership and for reinforcing these same values at home.

Here’s to another great month of learning, growing, and climbing higher together!

Warmly,

A Message from Mrs. Culley

Happy Fall Kettering families! We are well into this school year, and there is a lot happening this month.

Our character trait that we’re focusing on this month is being a Trustworthy Human Being. Kettering Kids are learning that it is important to be honest even when it is hard, to take responsibility for their actions and admit when they have made a mistake, and do what they say they are going to do so people can rely on them. It would be wonderful to engage them in conversations around these topics at home to solidify this personality trait in your own Kid.

The month of October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. My classroom wellness lessons will be on Bullying. There are different types of bullying, how to recognize bullying, how to help prevent bullying, and how to report bullying. This lesson always brings up good conversations about the difference between teasing and bullying, and how to tell the difference. We want our Kids to grow into strong, resilient, and brave adults.

Our district begins the Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) identification process this month. All students in 2nd grade and 4th grade (unless opted out) participate in the CogAT pre-screener. Here at Kettering our 2nd grade students will participate in this pre-screener on Thursday, October 8th; and our 4th grade students will participate on Thursday, October 15th. Students with accommodations will be participating on different days. If you would like a more specific date, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Please make sure that your student has gotten a good night’s rest and attends school on that day.

Finally, Kettering Elementary now offers mental health therapy for students-welcome Mr. Roy Ho (including family involvement) that takes place at school and has no additional cost for most families. If you'd like to learn more or are thinking about referring your child for services, please see the attached flyer.
