Message from Principal Collins

Hello Evergreen Friends and Families,

This week, we’re excited to celebrate the incredible talents of our musician students. These concerts are a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school community and recognize the growth and accomplishments of our students in the performing arts. A huge thank you to Mr. Brenner and Mr. Worcester, our music teachers, for their ongoing support and leadership, and a huge shoutout to our amazing music students. Our 8th graders went on a science field trip. They had the opportunity to go to the Lawless Forge. We celebrated the end of testing this year by having an SBA Carnival. Our AVID students did their presentations and celebrated with a BBQ. We gave out grade-level awards to our scholars. Boy, did we pack a lot of fun into our last full week of school. The attendance Competition has ended; we gave it a good Grizzly try. We were awarded the most improved attendance.

This is my last newsletter of this school year! On behalf of the entire administrative team at Evergreen Middle School, I want to extend our warmest wishes for a fantastic summer break! As we close out another successful academic year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your unwavering support, dedication, and resilience.

This year has been filled with remarkable achievements, personal growth, and unforgettable memories. We have watched our students excel academically, pursue their passions, and make lasting contributions to our school community.

To our returning students, we eagerly anticipate your return in the fall, refreshed and ready to take on new challenges. Continue to nurture your curiosity, pursue your goals, and embrace the opportunities that await you.

To our parents and guardians, thank you for your trust, partnership, and unwavering commitment to your child's education. Your involvement and support are essential to our school's success, and we are grateful for the strong bond we share with our Evergreen Middle School families.

Are you preparing your child for a safe summer?

Summer is prime time for fun and also for taking risks—especially for middle schoolers, who may not always be in sight of an adult. Are you doing all you can to make sure your child is healthy and safe over the summer? Answer yes or no to the questions below to find out:

___1. Do you require your child to wear sunscreen and insect protection when playing outdoors?

___2. Do you insist that your child wear a helmet when on a bike, scooter, or skateboard?

___3. Do you consider your child’s maturity before assigning chores, such as mowing the lawn with a riding lawn mower?

___4. Do you encourage your child to drink plenty of water when playing or exercising outdoors in the heat?

___5. Do you look for supervised activities that will keep your child busy and active?

How well are you doing?

Mostly yes answers mean you are preparing for a safe summer for your middle schooler. For no answers, try those ideas in the quiz.

Encourage your child to find and enter a contest this summer. There are many opportunities for students to keep learning during the summer months. And without the demands of schoolwork, they can choose what they’d like to learn more about. Entering a summer contest can allow your middle schooler to spend time developing talents and interests. Contests can also:

  • Inspire excellence. Whether your middle schooler enjoys art, writing, photography, or science, the idea of competing against others may motivate your child to produce a “personal best.”
  • Boost self-image. Even if your child doesn’t win the contest, taking a healthy risk and working hard is something to celebrate. Say something like, “You worked so hard. You submitted your entry on time and tried something different. You should feel really proud of yourself. I know I’m proud of you.” To find a suitable contest:
  • Check with the school. Sometimes, companies that sponsor contests for students will send materials and entry forms directly to school principals or counselors.
  • Ask a librarian. Librarians often know about contests for students.
  • Search online. Research any sponsor offering a contest before you allow your child to enter. You should never have to pay a fee to enter or provide personal financial information.

Lost and Found Reminder

Anything remaining in our lost and found on Tuesday, June 16th, will be donated. Be sure to encourage students to stop by the lost and found before the end of the school year.

As you enjoy the summer break, we encourage you to engage in activities that bring you joy, explore new interests, and create lasting memories. However, you choose to spend your summer, we hope it is filled with laughter, adventure, and personal growth. Thank you again for your continued support this year. Best wishes to our graduating eighth graders, whom we will miss greatly. Have a wonderful summer break. Here’s wishing you all love, laughter, and learning.

Families that have devices checked out after June 12 will receive notification of fines due for the equipment. Scholars will not be able to check out any additional equipment until the equipment is returned or fines have been fully paid to the scholar’s school.

Washington SUN Bucks Are Returning for Summer 2026!

Federal Way Public Schools is pleased to share that the state of Washington is operating the SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) program again this year. This program provides families with a one-time grocery benefit of $120 for each eligible school-aged scholar to help buy food during the summer months when school meals are unavailable.

What to Expect: Approval letters and brand-new SUN Bucks cards will begin arriving in the mail in early summer (starting mid-June through August). Benefits can be used at grocery stores, farmers markets, and online EBT-approved retailers.

How Do Families Qualify?

  • Automatic Enrollment: Most eligible scholars who are directly certified for free or reduced-price meals, or whose households participate in assistance programs like SNAP or TANF, are automatically enrolled and do not need to do anything.

  • Who Needs to Apply? Because all FWPS students receive meals at no cost during the school year via the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), status must be verified. If your family is not automatically enrolled but meets the household income guidelines, you can still submit an application online during the summer.

Important Actions & Resources for Families

  • Need to Update Your Address?
  • Cards are sent to the address on file. To check or update your mailing address, contact the SUN Bucks Call Center at 833-543-3230 or TTY 800-833-6384.
  • Stretch Your Benefits Farther:
  • You can get additional bonus food benefits by using your SUN Bucks card at participating local farmers markets and grocery stores that offer SNAP Market Match and SNAP Produce Match.
  • Learn More or Submit an Application:
  • For general eligibility questions, to check application statuses, or to apply online, visit the official state portal at sunbucks.dshs.wa.gov.
