April 2020 Distance Learning Updates
Pangborn Families
We hope that you and your family are staying safe and healthy, and that you have found time to relax and bond together during these unusual times.
Most importantly, we are thankful for all the students and families who are participating regularly with Distance Learning @ WCPS . Student attendance, academic engagement, and progress have been successful as a result of good communication between you and your child's classroom teacher. We will continue providing updates during the time schools remain closed along with teachers, students, and parents remaining engaged with the Distance Learning platform we have all become accustomed to utilizing.
Please continue reaching out to your child's classroom teacher, encore teachers, school counselors, support staff, and administration with any questions or for support. We are all in this venture and new way of learning together and will continue striving to support and enhance the academic, social, and emotional needs of students during this unprecedented time.
Mr. Meredith
Ms. Keilholtz

Meal Site Operating Days
Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) continues to provided meals for children while schools are closed.
Meals will be served on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at Pangborn Elementary from 12:00 - 1:00 in the bus loop area. Children will receive two meals on Mondays, one meal on Wednesdays, and two meals on Thursdays. One "meal" consists of lunch, a snack, and breakfast for the following day. All food is served in a grab-n-go style to promote social distancing. Meals are provided to any child 18 or younger who is present at the site.
When on site, please continue to follow the designated traffic pattern and social distancing protocols that remain in place in order to support the health and safety of all visitors.
Distance Learning Grading
As we continue with the implementation of the Distance Learning Plan, teachers will be grading student work. You will soon be able to see your child’s grades on ParentVUE and StudentVUE if you have not already. Please know those grades will be used to calculate fourth marking period grades.
Pangborn staff are pleased that your child is participating in Distance Learning either through online class(es), downloading and uploading assignments, or completing the assignments provided in paper packets. We are focused on being fair to students and encouraging their participation and learning. Due to the ever-changing circumstances around the COVID-19 pandemic, if there are any changes with the grading process, families will be notified.
If, for any reason, your child has not been fully engaged in learning or if you need additional support for your child, please reach out to Mr. Meredith @ 301-766-8284 or email @ merederi@wcps.k12.md.us .
Thanks for all you are doing at home to continue your child’s education in collaboration with their teachers.

Student Work Packet Information
Students in PreK, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade:
WCPS will be mailing packets of work each week to your home for these students. If you misplace your packet, or are in need of another one, a limited supply will be available on our school campus each day of the week from 12:00pm - 1:00pm as long as supplies last. The packets can be picked up by meeting Mr. Meredith at the front entrance of the school.
Additional and supplemental material will be sent from classroom teachers as well using Google Classroom. These teachers will update you with more specific information. Any device (phone, iPad, computer, etc.) that you have at home will work to view the information and material.
Students in 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade:
WCPS is encouraging students to continue their learning digitally using their iPad. Classroom teachers will be sending lessons and resources to your child each week through Google Classroom. If learning digitally is a problem for you or your child, a limited supply of packets containing the assignments will be available on our school campus each day of the week from 12:00pm - 1:00pm as long as supplies last. The packets can be picked up by meeting Mr. Meredith at the front entrance of the school. Each week, additional paper packets will be available on a limited basis for those who need them and can not complete the work digitally.
Wireless Internet
We understand that wireless internet is necessary to download assignments and access the Digital Learning platform. Families that do not have wireless internet in their homes may drive and/or walk to Pangborn Elementary School's property in order to quickly use our signal (wcps guest, no password) for downloading purposes only on an as needed basis.
Please note these connections are only available to WCPS students and staff who have valid credentials to access the network. It is recommended that families and students remain in their vehicles to use the hotspots. People who are not in a vehicle are encouraged to maintain social distancing of 20 feet from others.
Below is also a list of community hotspot locations that Antietam Broadband and Comcast/Xfinity have opened up for free access during the COVID-19 crisis. These sites are offering WiFi free of charge at the discretion of the provider, and the service is subject to change without notice to WCPS.
Distance Learning @ WCPS Website
WCPS has compiled resources to support families and students who are learning from home. Visit Distance Learning @ WCPS to find tutorials, tips, an overview of the distance learning curriculum and weekly objectives, and more.
