NAMilyNewsletterSeptember 2024

A word from the principals!

Greetings NAMily!

The school year is in full swing and off to a great start. There are so many great things happening. September is Attendance Awareness Month. We will also host our annual Literacy Night/Open House this month. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Principals Ferguson & Lewallen

September is Attendance Awareness Month

Attending school daily matters. Students who are chronically absent miss 10% or 18 days of learning time. Did you know that students who are never chronically absent are 6.7 times more likely to read on grade level by the end of third grade? And 9 times more likely to graduate high school on time? Expect to see us reaching out early this year when students miss school because we care about them and their success.

Family Handbook

Take a moment to read through the NAM Handbook. Sign this form to indicate that you have read the document. A drawing for a gift card will be held for 3 families, who sign the form by Friday the 13th to acknowledge that you have read the handbook.

You would be expected to interact with students for a maximum of 10 minutes.

NAMSF (Foundation) Election Notice

North Avondale Montessori School Foundation is a volunteer-led foundation that helps supports North Avondale Montessori school financially. We organize various fundraising events (such as the annual golf outing, the winter fundraiser, and the NAM read-a-thon), and use the money earned to provide additional financial assistance to teachers and help fund special projects in classrooms. We work closely with the PTO and staff to ensure that all students have a great experience at NAM. We invite you to get more involved with your child’s school by joining the Executive Board of our Foundation!

We are holding elections for a new slate of officers this year; all positions are open. Rest assured that the current board members will be there to help you transition into your role if you choose to serve on the board! Please read the officer position descriptions below, and fill out this interest form by Friday, August 30th if you are interested in running. Voting will then take place (also via an online form) in the month of September.

NAMSF Officer Roles:

a. President: The President shall preside at all meetings of the NAMSF and the Executive Board. He/she shall be an ex-officio member of all committees.

b. Vice-President: The Vice-President shall perform the duties and have the powers of the President in the absence, inability, or arbitrary refusal of the President to act, as determined by the Executive Board. The Vice-President will be responsible for approving out of budget, over budget, and check request items in addition to the treasurer. He/she shall also perform such duties as the President may assign.

c. Secretary: The Secretary shall act as Secretary at all meetings and see that meeting minutes are recorded and distributed and that all notices of meetings are served in a timely fashion. The Secretary will also file and preserve all records and papers pertaining to the NAMSF and its Executive Board. He/she shall also perform such duties as the President may assign.

D. Treasurer: The Treasurer shall have the care and custody of the funds of the

NAMSF and shall handle and disburse the same under the direction of the Executive Board. The Treasurer shall keep proper books of accounts showing the monies received, and disbursed and all the assets and liabilities of the NAMSF. All funds of the NAMSF shall be deposited in such banks as the Executive Board shall designate. At its discretion, the Board may require an independent audit. He/she will be responsible for providing current and accurate reporting of funds submitted and funds paid. He/she will maintain a “receipt” book, which will be used to record exchange of funds between committee chairs, donors, and the Foundation. The Treasurer will be responsible for approving out of budget, over budget, and check request items in addition to the vice-president. The Treasurer shall also perform such duties as the President may assign.

*In addition to these 4 roles which are to be filled by parents or friends of North Avondale Montessori school, The NAMSF Executive Board comprises 3 NAM staff members for a total of 7 votes on the Board.

*Meetings for the Foundation Executive Board will be at 5 pm on the first Wednesday of every month, at NAM (directly before PTO meetings). If you wish to become an officer, you will need to attend these meetings.
