Dear Families,
As Teacher Appreciation Week approaches, we invite you to join us in recognizing the incredible dedication, care, and hard work our teachers bring to the classroom each day. They make a lasting difference in the lives of our students, and this is a wonderful opportunity to show our gratitude.
If you’re looking for ways to participate, here are a few simple and meaningful ideas:
- Write a heartfelt note or have your child create a card or drawing
- Send in a small treat, snack, or favorite beverage
- Share a kind email expressing your appreciation
- Encourage your child to say “thank you” and reflect on what they’ve learned
No gesture is too small—your support and recognition truly mean a great deal.
Thank you for helping us celebrate and honor our amazing teachers!
Family Night
Principal's Corner
Dear Pinehurst Early Elementary Families,
As we welcome the month of May, it’s hard to believe how quickly this school year has flown by! Our kindergarten and first-grade students have grown tremendously, academically, socially, and emotionally, and we are so proud of all they have accomplished.
May is always a busy and exciting time at Pinehurst. Classrooms are filled with end-of-year learning activities, celebrations, and opportunities for students to showcase their progress. Our teachers continue to work hard to ensure that every child finishes the year strong while also preparing for a smooth transition into the next grade level.
We also look forward to several special events this month, including classroom celebrations, spring activities, and opportunities for families to stay connected with our school community. Please be sure to watch for communication from your child’s teacher regarding important dates and details.
As the weather becomes warmer, we encourage families to send students to school dressed appropriately for outdoor play and to help them continue practicing positive routines at home—especially reading each day, getting enough rest, and coming to school ready to learn.
I want to thank you for your continued support and partnership. Your involvement plays a vital role in your child’s success, and we are grateful to work together with you.
Let’s make these final weeks of the school year meaningful, joyful, and full of learning!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Anne Bennett
Principal

IRIPs (Individualized Reading Intervention Plans)
As part of the Michigan Read by Grade Three law, the IRIP, or Individual Reading Improvement Plan, is a targeted plan to help students strengthen their reading skills. After the most recent benchmark assessments, parents will receive a letter on May 1st, if their child has been identified with a reading deficiency, whether it was identified earlier in the year or just recently. In a few weeks, both the intervention plan and the read-at-home plan will be sent home, offering specific strategies to support improvement. If your child is below grade-level expectations, we encourage you to sign up for summer school to ensure continued support and progress. If you have any questions, please contact your student's teacher.

Integrity
What is Integrity?
Integrity is the ability and willingness to live with honesty and excellence. People who act with integrity make a choice to do the right thing, no matter who is watching. Integrity is the foundation on which we build relationships and trust.
Why Focus on Integrity?
- Integrity generates trust. When we are honest and follow through on promises, we gain the confidence of our team; Trust allows us to collaborate and achieve more together.
- Integrity encourages self-assessment. Integrity requires our regular self-assessment to align behaviors with our goals and self-beliefs.
- Integrity is essential in leadership. Great leaders decrease anxiety and build strong teams when they are honest, consistent, and responsible.
Integrity In Action
- Acknowledge and affirm acts of integrity. Publicly praise students who model acts of integrity such as honesty and honor. Encourage students to identify classmates who show integrity.
- Use scenarios and role-play. Challenge students with real-life scenarios and situations that allow them to reflect, discuss, and choose the best next step or action.
- Create a culture of accountability. Invite students to give you feedback. Ask students to rate the class based on your Social Contract. Empower students with choice-based consequences.
Time for School
The most successful students come to school everyday, on time, and ready to learn. We want our Pinehurst students to enjoy every benefit of learning. Parents, one of your most important jobs is to make sure your child is at school and on time every day (unless they are sick) for the entire day to maximize your child's academic and social growth.

School Expectations
Mt. Morris Schools has a commitment to teaching positive behaviors that are expected in school. At Pinehurst we teach the Three Bs: Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Responsible. We teach what this looks like in different areas around the school. We also constantly and consistently praise and acknowledge positive behaviors. Please make sure to read pages 8-14 in the student handbook on our website about positive behavior support and disciplinary measures.
Bus Behavior
Please know that riding a bus is a privilege. All students must adhere to the bus expectations located in the student handbook on the building's website. Failure to follow these rules may result in permanent removal from the bus. It is vital for our drivers to be able to concentrate on the road at all times to make sure students arrive to school and home safely.
