It gives me great joy to share that I’ve developed a four-session virtual intensive course in Spanish for families (parents/guardians) of multilingual students in grades TK–12 in Ventura County schools, focused on the importance, process, and benefits of reclassification. The course will also incorporate youth literature and practical literacy strategies to support learning at home.

Some topics include:

  • Student and family strengths as cultural and linguistic assets (assets-based pedagogies)
  • The State Seal of Biliteracy and recognition of multilingualism
  • Home Language Survey
  • Reclassification criteria and English proficiency requirements
  • First- and second-language acquisition
  • Types of multilinguals and their support needs
  • Programs and services for English development
  • ELPAC and English proficiency progress
  • Supports for dually identified students
  • Families as educational partners in fostering learning and positive multilingual identity

8th Grade Transition To High School Family Information 8th Grade Transition To High School Family Information

PLEASE READ BELOW, AND CLICK ON THE LINKS PROVIDED.

Hello Families of PVSD 8th Graders,

Below is information to help families make the transition from 8th grade into high school.

*Pleasant Valley School District has in-person classes for grades TK-8.

*Many students who live in Camarillo attend Oxnard Unified High School District.

*Choosing a high school that is a great fit for your child involves becoming familiar with the many high school choice options available.

Read below to find out more.

Oxnard Union High School District (OUHSD):

School of residence: The high school assigned to you based on where you live.

Not sure which high school belongs to your address? Verify your school of residence using the School Locator.

DEADLINE APPROACHING

Dear PVSD Families,

This is a reminder that students wishing to attend Rancho Campana High School must submit a lottery application no later than November 30th.

Please use the link below to access and complete the application:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1twZC5g_ogNpX7JR0lbOjQVxF8CU0u8wl2bGFH5it7aw/edit

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Lottery school: OUHSD has one school that requires the student to apply to have their name entered into the school lottery to attend the school. In OUHSD, that school is Rancho Campana High School. Students are randomly assigned a number and then the school admits the students they have space for based on their lottery number. Use this link to learn about RCHS’s three academies. Here is the link to apply to Rancho Campana High School on the school’s website. To be included in the lottery, you must apply between November 1, 2025 and December 1, 2025, 11:59 PM. RCHS is having an information night and tour for 8th grade families on October 22, 5:30 PM, in the Performing Arts Center.

The RCHS students created this promotional video to demonstrate the educational experience at Rancho Campana High School. We are proud to not only be the second ranked academic high school in Ventura County and a CA Distinguished School, but also to be a place for innovation, thoughtfulness and individuality.

Intra-district transfer: This is the process to request to attend a high school other than your school of residence (not including the lottery school RCHS).

The OUHSD Student Support Services Department website states:

Transfers for the 2025-2026 school year are due on 2/28/2025 by 4:00pm. Please complete the transfer application using our online form or stop by at the Student Support Services office for a hard copy. Details about that process can be found here.

One reason a family may want to attend a school that is not their school of residence is to be part of a Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway that matches your student’s interests such as law, robotics, culinary arts and so much more. Find out about OUHSD’s extensive CTE programs at this link. All 8th grade students will have a chance to get to know OUHSD’s CTE pathways in the month of February when high school students come to share their passion with our 8th graders.

Learn about this flexible schooling option that keeps students connected with PVSD at this link and in the informational page attached.
