Winter WeatherProceduresNovember 6, 2026

Dear Fremont Community,

As our warm-weather days begin to wind down, we want to remind our families of our winter weather procedures. While we always aim to keep schools open, we have established guidelines for monitoring the weather. If conditions become unsafe, we may need to close schools.

School Closings

In general, if schools are closed due to inclement weather, the District’s goal is to notify families and staff by 5:30 a.m. the day of the closure. FSD79 emergency and school closing announcements will be made through the following methods:

  • Email

  • Automated Telephone Call

  • Text Message

  • Social Media (Facebook and Instagram)

  • FSD79 Website

In the event of a school closure, the District will hold an eLearning day instead of the traditionally scheduled emergency days at the end of the academic year. You can familiarize yourself with our eLearning day procedures here.

Two-Hour Late Start Option

A two-hour late start is an additional District option in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen events. By implementing a two-hour delayed start, the District can maintain in-person learning while prioritizing the safety of students and staff. Under this plan:

  • The school day will shift forward by two hours for our K-8 students, and dismissal times will remain unchanged.

    • Middle School

      • Delayed start time: 9:55 a.m.

    • Elementary & Intermediate Schools

      • Delayed start time: 10:50 a.m.

  • Morning student bus times would be exactly two hours later than their regularly scheduled bus stop pick-up time.

  • Lincoln Early Learning Center will cancel its AM session entirely, while the PM session proceeds as scheduled.

If schools are open, parents may, as always, excuse their child if they feel conditions are unsafe. Any bus delays of 10 minutes or more will be communicated to our families via our notification system.

We greatly appreciate your partnership, flexibility, and understanding.

Sincerely,

Trisha Kocanda, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
