Congratulations to Katelyn Anderson and Ella Jeschke, who proudly represented EHS at the Educators Rising National Conference in Portland, Oregon, June 19–23.

After qualifying at the Texas TAFE State Conference in February, these outstanding future educators competed against some of the nation's best students.

Katelyn earned an incredible 3rd Place National Finish in Exploring Support Services Careers after presenting on her job-shadow experience with Ms. Warren, Speech Pathologist at Harvest Ridge Elementary.

Ella showcased her passion for education in Exploring Non-Core Teaching Careers, highlighting what she learned while job shadowing Ms. Sengsouvanh, dance instructor at Elgin High School.

Representing Elgin on the national stage is an outstanding accomplishment, and we couldn't be prouder of these students and their teacher, Ashton Howell, for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to becoming future educators.

¡Felicidades a Katelyn Anderson y Ella Jeschke, quienes representaron con orgullo a Elgin High School en la Conferencia Nacional de Educators Rising, celebrada del 19 al 23 de junio en Portland, Oregón!

Después de clasificar en la Conferencia Estatal de TAFE de Texas en febrero, estas destacadas futuras educadoras compitieron contra algunos de los mejores estudiantes del país.

Katelyn obtuvo un increíble 3.er lugar a nivel nacional en la categoría Exploración de Carreras en Servicios de Apoyo, tras presentar su experiencia de observación profesional (job shadowing) con la Sra. Warren, patóloga del habla en Harvest Ridge Elementary.

Ella compartió su pasión por la educación en la categoría Exploración de Carreras Docentes No Básicas, destacando lo que aprendió durante su experiencia de observación profesional con la Sra. Sengsouvanh, maestra de danza en Elgin High School.

Representar a Elgin en un escenario nacional es un logro extraordinario, y no podríamos estar más orgullosos de estas estudiantes y de su maestra, Ashton Howell, por su dedicación, esfuerzo y compromiso con convertirse en las futuras educadoras de nuestra comunidad.

Three members of the Elgin FFA community were recognized with top honors at the Texas FFA Convention in Fort Worth this month. Maggie Howard, EISD's Director of CTE, P-Tech and CCMR, received the Honorary Lone Star Degree, the association's highest honor for an individual. Rising seniors Preston Maas and Aislyn Plummer each earned the Lone Star Degree, the highest award a student member can achieve.

For Maas and Plummer, the honor caps years of dedication to FFA and reflects significant achievement in leadership, community service and agricultural education. Both are considered standout examples of what the organization aims to build in its student members.

Howard, who was nominated for her honor by the Elgin FFA advisors, did not participate in FFA as a student herself. It wasn't until her career led her into CTE leadership that she came to understand FFA's impact on students and communities. Though she never wore the blue jacket, she says she's grateful her path has allowed her to serve the students who do.

All three celebrated the occasion together, alongside family, teachers and fellow students—and for Howard, a Fort Worth native, the chance to celebrate on home turf made the day even more special.

Tres miembros de la comunidad de Elgin FFA fueron reconocidos con los máximos honores durante la Convención de Texas FFA celebrada este mes en Fort Worth.

Maggie Howard, directora de CTE, P-Tech y CCMR de EISD, recibió el Honorary Lone Star Degree, el reconocimiento más prestigioso que la asociación otorga a una persona. Por su parte, los estudiantes que cursarán su último año de preparatoria, Preston Maas y Aislyn Plummer, obtuvieron el Lone Star Degree, el más alto reconocimiento que puede recibir un miembro estudiantil de FFA.

Para Maas y Plummer, este honor es el resultado de años de dedicación a FFA y refleja sus destacados logros en liderazgo, servicio comunitario y educación agrícola. Ambos representan un excelente ejemplo de los valores y el liderazgo que FFA busca desarrollar en sus estudiantes.

La Sra. Howard, quien fue nominada por los asesores de Elgin FFA, no participó en FFA cuando era estudiante. No fue sino hasta que su carrera la llevó al liderazgo de CTE que descubrió el impacto que FFA tiene en los estudiantes y en las comunidades. A special posthumous award was presented to the late Ricky Rodriguez, Elgin High School class of 1974. The Ricky Rodriguez Legacy of Excellence Award was created to honor graduates who show leadership, service and commitment to the community. Rodriguez’s youth mentorship at his business and involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, programs for the elderly and aid to people in need exemplify the spirit of Elgin.

Recipients of the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Awards are:

• Adam Muery, Elgin High School class of 1994, business and professional achievement;
• George Wesley Smith Jr., Washington High School class of 1963, community service;
• Ashton Howell, Elgin High School class of 2007, education;
• Malford Milligan, Elgin High School class of 1978, social services and the arts.

The EISD Distinguished Service Award was presented to Cheryl Thomas.

The classes of the 1940s was recognized at the ceremony, and the late Homer Johnson, Elgin High School class of 1950, was remembered for creating the composite class photographs displayed in the administration building. Long-time EISD educator Delores Johnson was also invited to the stage for well-wishes.

Special thanks go to the Purple and White Jubilee Committees and to Debbie Cartwright, whose leadership carried this event from concept to completion.

Attendance was strong, and guests left with a renewed sense of Wildcat pride! This celebration will continue in the years ahead; 2030 will bring the next milestone reunion.

Congratulations and best wishes to all of this year's recipients and honorees!

Exalumnos de Elgin ISD se reunieron para la Ceremonia de Premios a Exalumnos Distinguidos en el Auditorio de EHS el sábado 28 de junio como parte del Purple & White Jubilee 2026. El evento reconoció a los galardonados de este año, así como a todos los nominados y homenajeados especiales.

Se presentó un reconocimiento póstumo especial al fallecido Ricky Rodriguez, de la generación 1974 de Elgin High School. El Premio Ricky Rodriguez al Legado de la Excelencia fue creado para honrar a los graduados que demuestran liderazgo, servicio y compromiso con la comunidad. La mentoría que Rodriguez brindó a jóvenes en su negocio y su participación con los Boy Scouts of America, la Iglesia Católica Sacred Heart, programas para adultos mayores y el apoyo a personas necesitadas ejemplifican el espíritu de Elgin.
