Dear Fairview Families,

I am honored to introduce myself as the new principal of Fairview Intermediate School. My name is Tyler Gensler, and I have had the privilege of serving the West Shore School District for many years, most recently as an assistant principal at Cedar Cliff High School. I am excited to continue my journey within this remarkable district in this new role.

Fairview is a school full of bright students, dedicated staff, and families who care deeply. My goal is to ensure your children feel safe, supported, and inspired each day. I want Fairview to be a place where students don’t just attend school, they want to be here. A place where confidence grows, curiosity is encouraged, and every child has the chance to shine.

Over the coming months, I will focus on building connections and learning what makes Fairview special. I will be visiting classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and playgrounds, celebrating the strengths of our staff and students while supporting a smooth, positive finish to the school year. Partnerships with families are essential, and I look forward to listening, communicating, and working hand-in-hand with you to ensure every student thrives.

Fairview already has a strong foundation of academic excellence, a nurturing environment, and a supportive community. Together, we will continue to grow these strengths and help every student build the habits, confidence, and skills they need for the next chapter in their education.

Thank you for welcoming me into this wonderful community. I am eager to meet your children, work alongside our talented educators, and partner with you in providing an exceptional experience for every student at Fairview Intermediate School.

Mr. Gensler

On January 9, our fifth graders will enjoy a special visit from Mr. Matt March of the Cumberland County Historical Society for an interactive presentation on colonial clothing. The first presentation on January 9 will focus on colonial clothing.

Mr. March, the Classroom Outreach Education Director, brings traveling trunks filled with authentic artifacts and delivers one-hour presentations aligned with our Social Studies standards, highlighting Pennsylvania’s role in history.

During this session, students will explore how colonists expressed status, economics, roles, and technology through clothing. From wide skirts and knee-length pants to powdered wigs and unusual cosmetics, colonial fashion may seem strange today, but it made perfect sense at the time!

This is the first of four presentations Mr. March will offer to our fifth graders this year. We’re excited to kick off a year of hands-on historical learning.

6th Grade Boating

This week, sixth-grade students visited the WSSD Natatorium to participate in the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s Boating Safety Awareness Course. This hands-on experience is a required component of the sixth-grade curriculum and provided students with essential knowledge about boating safety and responsible behavior on the water.

"One Word"

This January, our sixth-grade students began the new year by creating “One Word” New Year’s resolutions instead of traditional resolutions, which are often difficult to maintain. By selecting one meaningful word, students focused on a guiding mindset they can carry with them throughout the year—both academically and personally. Words such as perseverance, effort, focus, forgiveness, dedication, commitment, mindfulness, healthy, achieve, strength, different, and bubbly reflect the diverse goals and personalities within our classroom. This activity encouraged self-reflection, goal-setting, and social-emotional growth while helping students take ownership of their learning and behavior. These students are starting off 2026 on a positive foot, setting the tone for a year filled with growth, resilience, and purpose.
