Northview HS Newsletter

It's another exciting week at Northview, and we have so much to celebrate!

Congratulations to our Girls Flag Football team on another outstanding season and earning a berth in the CIF playoffs! We are proud of our student-athletes and coaches for their hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout the season.

Last week, our seniors participated in Future Day, an important opportunity to get a head start on college applications, financial aid, and planning for life after high school. For many of our students, these experiences are about much more than getting into college. They are about opening doors, creating opportunities, and changing the trajectory of their families for generations to come. At Northview, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances. Future Day is one of the many ways we are putting that belief into action.

We also successfully completed our annual SAT Day! Our 9th and 10th grade students can now access their scores through their College Board accounts. Students in 11th and 12th grades should receive their score reports in approximately four weeks. We encourage families to review these results together, celebrate areas of strength, and identify opportunities for continued growth.

Attention AP Families! The deadline to register and pay for AP Exams is November 6. Please make sure you have created your Total Registration account and completed your exam payments. Remember, families who complete the Education Benefits Form qualify for a significantly reduced exam fee of just $20 per exam instead of $103. We want every student to have access to these opportunities, so please take advantage of this benefit!

Our Viking student-athletes and performers continue to make us proud!

• Girls Volleyball: Congratulations on an exciting second-round CIF victory over Vistamar! Our Lady Vikings will host Beverly Hills High School this Wednesday in the CIF quarterfinals. Let's pack the gym and cheer them on!

Our band will compete again on Saturday, October 31, at Bonita High School, with a performance scheduled for 11:45 AM. Best of luck to our talented musicians and performers!

I am excited to announce the Grand Opening of The Viking Closet on Tuesday, November 3, at 9:00am in the Northview Wellness Center! The Viking Closet is a Northview Cares resource designed to provide students with free access to clothing, shoes, and essential hygiene products in a welcoming and supportive environment. This initiative is about more than meeting basic needs. It's about ensuring that every student feels valued, supported, and ready to succeed. We look forward to celebrating this important addition to our campus!

A big shoutout to our Northview Interact Club for volunteering at the annual Boo Bash celebration at Covina Park on Saturday, October 24! Our Vikings helped bring Halloween fun to local families while giving back to our community. We are proud of our students for demonstrating leadership, service, and a commitment to making a positive difference beyond our campus. Way to represent Northview!

Finally, I want to remind everyone that Friday, October 30 is a Student-Free day. Enjoy your three-day weekend.

Thank you, Northview familia, for your continued partnership and support. Whether in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, or in our community, our Vikings continue to demonstrate what it means to strive for excellence.

SENIORS — BEFORE YOU HIT SUBMIT!

College applications are open, but don’t rush to hit submit!

Start early, ask questions, and take the time to review before you submit!

ALL STUDENTS | CHECK YOUR GRADES & STAY ON TRACK

As we continue through the semester, we encourage all students and families to regularly check Aeries to monitor grades, missing assignments, and overall academic progress.

Don’t wait until the end of the grading period to make changes! Checking grades regularly gives students time to identify concerns and take action early.

Tips to Help Improve Your Grades

• Check Aeries regularly for current grades and missing assignments.

• Turn in missing or incomplete work as soon as possible.

• Talk to your teachers if you are struggling or have questions.

• Attend tutoring or ask about available academic support.

• Stay organized by using a planner or calendar to keep track of assignments, tests, and deadlines.

• Set aside time each day to complete assignments, study, and review class material.

• Ask for help early! Don’t wait until your grade becomes difficult to improve.

Small improvements can make a big difference. Stay organized, communicate with your teachers, and keep working toward a strong semester!

COUNSELING TEAM REMINDER

October is an important month for our students, especially our seniors. College applications are underway, deadlines are approaching, and staying on top of academics remains just as important.

We encourage students to:

• Stay organized and keep track of important dates and deadlines.

• Check Aeries and Google Classroom regularly.

• Communicate with teachers when they need help.

• Take advantage of tutoring, workshops, and available support.

• Ask questions early instead of waiting.

• Seniors: Check in with your counselor before submitting college applications.

Our Counseling Team is here to support our Vikings academically and as they explore their college, career, and postsecondary options.

Let’s keep working hard and finish the semester strong, Vikings!

Our annual Future Day was a huge success! It was an incredible day filled with opportunities as our seniors took important steps toward their futures!

Students kicked off the day by creating their FSA IDs and beginning the FAFSA financial aid application process. They then heard from Citrus College about the many academic and career pathways available to them. Next, representatives from Mt. SAC guided students through the college application process, resulting in every senior who participated in Future Day submitting an application to Mt. SAC!

The afternoon continued with support for CSU and UC applications, along with on-the-spot admissions opportunities from private colleges and universities. By the end of the day, over 50 students had received college admissions offers from Azusa Pacific University, La Sierra University, Grand Canyon University, and the University of La Verne!

At Northview, our commitment to moving from Good to Great is about more than academic achievement. It's about creating opportunities, removing barriers, and ensuring that every student has the tools, support, and confidence to pursue a future filled with possibilities. For many of our students, these opportunities represent more than a college acceptance. They represent the potential to transform their lives, their families, and future generations.
