New Jersey School Funding Survey with Your School Community
The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) encourages school districts to share the New Jersey School Funding Survey with families, students, educators and community members.
The survey is part of NJDOE’s statewide School Funding Outreach effort to gather perspectives on how New Jersey’s school funding system can best support students and schools. Feedback gathered through the outreach will help inform future discussions and recommendations.
Community Climate & Engagement Survey Results
We sincerely appreciate the thoughtful feedback shared through our Community Climate and Engagement Survey. Your comments, concerns, and suggestions are important to us and provide valuable insight into the experiences of our Hamburg School families.
Administrative feedback for narratives are noted at the conclusion of the survey results in red.
The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) strives to recognize educators who have gone above and beyond in their service to New Jersey’s students. Now, more than ever before, is the time to celebrate New Jersey’s outstanding educators. Therefore, every school in every district is encouraged to participate in Governor’s Educator of the Year program to honor the hardworking teachers and educational services professionals for their dedication to their students and the profession.
This program promotes a culture that recognizes excellence, creates a sense of pride and brings public attention to the work of outstanding educators. Please remember to consider exceptional educators with diverse backgrounds to ensure that honorees represent the ethnic/racial diversity of our state.
Nominations should be forwarded to Dr. Sigman <ksigman@hamburgschool.com> by Friday, November 13, 2026.

🌷 Hamburg School Celebrates Plant the Promise! 🌷
Hamburg School is proud to participate in Plant the Promise, a meaningful initiative that encourages our students to make positive choices and embrace a healthy, drug-free future. Through the planting of tulip bulbs, our students are reminded that the positive decisions we make today help create a brighter tomorrow.
A special thank you to the Wallkill Valley Coalition for their generous donation and continued commitment to supporting our students and school community. We look forward to watching our tulips bloom this spring as a beautiful reminder of the promises we plant today!
Scarecrow Results
Our scarecrow contest has come to an end. Thank you to all of our participating groups this year. We had seven entries this year, including Harry Potter, Coraline, Pete the Cat, Jasper (from “Creepy Carrots”), the Lorax, and a Wild Thing (from “Where the Wild Things Are”). Each one of the scarecrows was a great depiction of the chosen character.
Three individuals from the municipal building assisted us with judging the scarecrows using a provided rubric. Those individuals were Keith Sukennikoff (OEM), Tracey Barnitt (Administrative Assistant), and Joseph Brezina (CFO). Many thanks to those three individuals for helping us with this difficult task. The scarecrow designers were kept anonymous and the rubric included the criteria of theme interpretation, creativity, craftsmanship, visual appeal, use of materials, and overall impact. Our judges had a very difficult time judging these scarecrows and expressed that there was an incredible job done by all (they wanted everyone to win!). Their comments included, “All of the kids did amazing; they’re all awesome!”, “Reminded me of the book immediately!”, “The scarecrows were great!”, “All did a great job. Good luck to all!”.
While not every scarecrow could be a winner in this contest, we’d like to share with you some of the comments that were made about each entry.
Harry Potter
“I love how you added a book of spells. Each one was so creative!”
“I like the overall presentation.”
“Your scarecrow looks just like Harry Potter!”
“Very creative; This scarecrow looks almost real!”
Coraline
“I love how Coraline’s clip was made; It really looks like the one from the movie!”
“I really like the button eyes, and the attention to detail.”
“Great pumpkin painting for the face. So creative.”
“I could not tell if this was the real thing or not. This scarecrow rocks!”
Pete the Cat
“Pete looks like he jumped off the page from his book!”
“I love the skateboard; it adds to the look.”
“I love Pete’s spooky mask!”
“Pete the Cat rocks. Very creative and sassy.”
Jasper
“I love how the creepy carrots were added!”
“Nice use of the Nets hat!”
“Looks like this was a team project. Great job!”
“Ohh. This bunny has that creepy look with his carrots. Great job- you nailed it!”
The Lorax
“I speak for the Lorax and he says the tree was a great addition.”
“His eyebrows and mustache really stand out!”
“I ‘mustache’ you…how did you make this so awesome?!?!”
“Lorax looks great and proud of the tree. What a great looking mustache!”
Pete the Cat
“Pete! The design of Pete’s face is so creative! Felt was a great idea.”
“I like his blue shoes! I like his blue shoes!” (Make sure you sing it as you read it!)
“I love Pete’s shirt. So much fun!”
“This Pete is a rock star. Well done!”
Wild Thing
“The painted face on the pumpkin looks just like the book!”
“He really makes me think of the book when I look at him!”
“This scarecrow looks so spooky!”
“Is this the real thing? He’s so spooky. Great job!”
We’re excited to announce that the official winning scarecrow is the Wild Thing, made by Fourth Grade, and runner up is Jasper, made by Second Grade. Great work!

Your Voice Matters. Your Feedback Makes a Difference!
At Hamburg School, we believe that strong schools are built upon open communication, meaningful partnerships, and a shared commitment to the success and well-being of our students. With this in mind, we are excited to introduce Hamburg School Community Voice: Celebrations, Concerns & Conversations!
This new initiative provides parents, guardians, community members, staff and students with an ongoing opportunity to share their thoughts, recognize the wonderful things happening throughout our school, offer suggestions for improvement, ask questions, and communicate concerns.
The Community Voice Survey will remain open year-round and will be regularly monitored by the Hamburg School Administrative Team. Our goal is to create an accessible and welcoming avenue for communication that encourages honest feedback, celebrates our successes, and helps us identify opportunities for continued growth.
We recognize that some individuals may prefer to share their thoughts anonymously. Therefore, the survey allows participants to remain completely anonymous or voluntarily provide their contact information if they would appreciate a direct response from administration.
Whether you have a positive experience to celebrate, a staff member to recognize, an idea worth exploring, or a concern that deserves attention, we want to hear from you!
Your feedback is important to us, and we are committed to listening, reflecting, and using the information shared to strengthen our school community.
*This survey is intended for general feedback and is not an emergency reporting system.
2026–2027 Report Card Updates
As part of our continued commitment to providing meaningful feedback on student learning and growth, Hamburg School is pleased to share the 2026–2027 Report Card Templates, which are attached for your review.
This school year brings two notable changes to our reporting practices:
Standards-Based Grading (Kindergarten–Grade 3): Report cards have been updated to reflect student progress toward grade-level learning standards, providing families with a clearer understanding of their child's academic growth and areas for continued development.
Trimester Reporting (Kindergarten–Grade 8): All grade levels will now follow a trimester reporting schedule, replacing the previous marking period structure.
We encourage families to review the attached templates to become familiar with the updated reporting formats. These changes reflect our ongoing efforts to strengthen communication between home and school while ensuring that student progress is reported clearly, consistently, and meaningfully.

New Jersey Statewide Student Support Services
The mission of the Hamburg Public School District is to provide an education, which will enable students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become contributing members of society.
The educational program will enable each student to develop emotionally, socially, psychologically, and cognitively within his or her abilities and interests.
The mission of the Hamburg Public School District, therefore, is to develop an educational program that is under constant evaluation, allows all students to achieve the New Jersey Student Learning Standards at all grade levels, and is dedicated to providing experiences relative to the demands of modern society in an effort to best prepare our students to meet with success and grand achievements in the 21st century.
