The North Little Rock School District is proud to announce that its students have collectively read more than 500,000 minutes between January and April 4 as part of the Read to Feed competition.

By surpassing this ambitious goal, the district has earned the prestigious Ark Award from Heifer International. This honor signifies that a full "ark" of animals—including cows, goats, and honeybees—will be donated to communities in need worldwide, providing a sustainable leap toward ending global hunger.

To celebrate this massive achievement, the district hosted an awards ceremony at Ridge Road Elementary, the winning school, who read over 150,000 minutes. The event featured student trophies, the presentation of the Reading Championship Cup, and the high-stakes "sliming " of Superintendent Dr. Gregory J. Pilewski by the top-performing student and media specialist, Ms. Brooks.

The top 3 students who read the most were:

  • Noah Rozzell, 5th grade, Lakewood, 6,648 minutes reading
  • Phillip Kraska, 1st grade, Lakewood, 4,336 minutes reading
  • Annalyce Sayes, 4th grade, Crestwood, 4,200 minutes reading

Read to Feed is a service-learning program by Heifer International that motivates students to read while raising money and awareness to end hunger and poverty. The "Ark Award" represents one of the highest tiers of contribution, providing a wide variety of livestock and training to struggling families globally.
