A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
ALICE Drill Review
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Student safety is a top priority at Omro High School. In order to help our students be prepared for emergency situations at school, we regularly conduct safety drills. These drills include fire, tornado, and ALICE drills. We have also been fortunate to have worked with local and county safety personnel to use common language and procedures.
We will continue to utilize ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate) as our response to active intruder situations. All of our staff have been trained in this model. We will be having a review of this drill the week of May 19, 2025. These reviews will involve discussing classroom/school scenarios of an active intruder and a discussion between teachers and students of appropriate response(s). ALICE focuses on empowering students to make informed decisions if an intruder situation arises. More information on ALICE is linked below.
I have also linked below the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) that Winnebago County is utilizing in emergency situations. Many communities and organizations in our county, and throughout the state, have adopted this as a means to have a common vocabulary and procedures in emergency situations.

Sweet Jazz Night Success
Tuesday evening featured the Sweet Jazz "Animated Movies" performance, a lively showcase of talent from our Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz groups. Under the direction of OMS/OHS Choir Director Ms. Erica Birenbaum and Band Director Mrs. Wendy Fisher, the concert highlighted beloved animated film music. Vocal Jazz students Jaylin, Hadley, Paige, Karlee, Carissa, Jayden, and Aspen delivered spirited renditions of "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin, "Dig a Little Deeper" from The Princess and the Frog, and "I'm Still Standing" from Sing.
During intermission, guests enjoyed delicious treats prepared and served by Mrs. Cindy Morse's Advanced Culinary Arts students—Haley, Jaxson, Shayli, Bella, Nic, Maya, Jacob L, Logan P, and Ronnie. The dessert lineup included Chocolate Lasagna, Strawberry Shortcake, and the Cupcake Wars-winning S'mores cupcake.
The evening concluded with an impressive set by the Jazz Band, performing "Happy" from Despicable Me 2, "You're Welcome" from Moana—featuring Kira S on flute—and "Diggin’ the New Digs" from Incredibles 2, with standout solos by Kayannah (trumpet), Liam (saxophone), and Griffen (trumpet). Jazz Band members include Kay K, Kira S, Kaia, Liam, Erick, Macy (OMS student), Kayannah, Tyler, Scarlet, Grayson, and Griffen.
What an incredible night of jazz and culinary creativity—so proud of our talented students and thriving programs here in Omro!
Space Tomatoes Come to Omro
The Omro High School Plant Club participated in the Tomatosphere Project by collecting data on tomato seed germination. We received two sets of seeds: one batch had spent two months aboard the International Space Station, while the other remained on Earth. After germinating both sets, we recorded the results and shared our data with project scientists. The Tomatosphere Project aims to study how space travel affects seed development. As a bonus, club members will get to plant their tomatoes at home. The Omro Foxes are proud to support real-world scientific discovery!

Omro Boys' Track Team Scores Third Straight Victory!
Deerfield was the place to be last Friday for track and field fans, as the Omro Boys' team claimed their third consecutive win at the Deerfield Classic! Leading the charge was Mason H, who took first place in both the 110M and 300M Hurdles and was part of the winning 4x400M Relay team alongside Parker K, Lucas K, and Ralphie K.
Lucas K also earned silver medals in the 800M and 1600M, while Ralphie K grabbed bronze in the 200M. In the field events, Mason and Ralphie went one-two in the high jump, adding more points to the team's performance.

Anatomy & Physiology Circulatory System Unit
Our OHS Anatomy and Physiology classes enjoyed the warm temperatures this week to make heart models outside. They also dissected deer hearts that hunters saved for us from November's hunting season. Maybe there are some future cardiac doctors in the making!

Sports Physical Reminder
Sports physicals are required before a student can begin practice. Sports physicals are good for two school years. Any physical that is dated before March 31, 2024, will not be valid for the 2025-2026 school year.
A reminder to parents that if you need a sports physical for your child this upcoming season, please try and have your WIAA paperwork done this month so the onsite clinicians can complete them before the summer break. The provider is typically here on Tuesdays and Fridays. There is not a provider available at school over the summer. If you would like to have the physical completed at school, plan ahead. Urgent medical needs must be cared for prior to physicals being completed. If you prefer to utilize your child's primary care provider, I encourage you to make an appointment well in advance. Lastly, as a reminder, the clinic in Walgreens has closed.
