The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) has released a new parent education video developed in response to S.B. 98 (2025): Parental Education on Student Use of Technology Amendments. The video provides parents and guardians with clear, accessible information about technology-related risks and safety considerations for students.

INFORMATION:

Check out their youtube channel: USBE Prevention YouTube Channel

For more information visit USBE’s Safe Use of Technology webpage for additional information.

During the 2025 Legislative Session, the Utah State Legislature passed S.B. 98, aimed at increasing parental awareness about the safety and legal risks students may encounter when using technology.

In collaboration with Bonneville Communications, the Utah State Board of Education has created a brief, informative video to help families better understand issues such as:

  • Risks associated with sharing personal information online

  • Dangers tied to creating or sharing sexual or nude images, including artificially generated images

  • Practical ways families can support safe and responsible technology use

USBE has made this resource available statewide to ensure every parent has the opportunity to learn about these important topics.

Thank you for empowering your family with the knowledge they need to guide and protect students in today’s digital environment.

JH Boys Tennis

Greetings Parents!

I am Ben Sutton, the new coach of the Salem Jr High Boys Tennis team! If your boy is interested in playing on the team, please fill out the Boys Tennis Interest Survey.

By way of introduction…

  • I live in Salem with my wife and 4 children at home
  • I am not a full time teacher, I work in Provo
  • I enjoy tennis, but have never played competitively

I’ve decided to coach tennis out of an interest in helping boys develop interest in, and improve their skills with, the sport. I’ll provide a structured environment that encourages them to realize that their efforts are what determines their success. Should be a great time!

Some preliminary information that may help…

  • Boys of all skill levels are encouraged to participate.
  • Matches will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30, starting on March 24th.
  • Practices will be held Mondays and Wednesdays after school, starting 2-3 weeks before the first match.
  • At this level of play, I will not be super strict about attendance, but expect to use the “reasonable parent” standard…If your boy will not be attending practice or matches, I expect communication about it ahead of time.
  • I am not expecting to have “try outs” unless interest is excessive.

The Survey will help me get organized and best serve you and your boy. If you’re interested, please fill it out!

Intramural Weight Lifting

Salem Jr. High is excited to offer a weight lifting Intramural opportunity for students who want to get stronger, faster, and more confident in the weight room. The group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30–7:30 AM and is football-tailored, focusing on strength, speed, and injury prevention—but all are welcome, no matter their sport or experience level. Whether you’ve lifted for years or have never touched a barbell, this club is designed to teach proper technique, build confidence, and create a positive team environment. Come work hard, improve, and start your day strong!
