Traffic Pattern & NEW Parking

Driveline Procedure
If you only have a Middle or High School student you have two options for drop-off.

  • Use the procedures outlined in our Elementary guide. This option is required if you have both an Elementary and Secondary student.
  • Or drop your students in the MS/HS Drop-Off zones
    • In front of Building A on the corner of Yager and Lamar
    • Between Buildings B and C. DO NOT STOP BEFORE THE GATE.

Student Drivers

  • Students should not be parking on site outside of student parking - any cars that are not registered are subject to tow.
  • Scholars must register their vehicles for student parking
  • For more information about Student Parking visit our Student Drivers & Parking page

More Information

  • For the safety of all students, please avoid having them walk to vehicles along Yager Lane. This area is not monitored by staff, and there are no designated crosswalks or traffic controls, making it unsafe for student pickup.
  • Tardy drop offs MUST go to building 1 for a pass

More information regarding Arrivals & Dismissal can be found on our website.

Dress Code / Uniform

There is a close relationship between high standards of dignity and pride and proper grooming which all contribute to an appropriate learning environment. Modesty will be the dominant feature in all clothes. Attire shall be clean and inoffensive. Students and parents share in the responsibility for proper grooming of the student; however, the campus administrator has the final authority concerning propriety of clothes, hairstyle, and jewelry.

General Expectations

  • Students are expected to follow the uniform/dress code standards on campus, on study trips, and at other school activities.

  • Hats, hoods, and scarves are not permitted to be worn inside. Head coverings should not cover student faces. Headwear worn for religious purposes is acceptable.

  • Students with sensory issues that require modifying the uniform may request an exception. They must provide medical documentation to administrators with the request.

  • Piercings (8th-12th Only) Small facial piercings are ok. No large hoops or large gauges (large=over 16mm or ⅝”). Tapers or spiked gauges are not allowed.

  • Monday-Friday for 9th-12th grade students and Fridays for all other grades are "free choice" but students must follow the dress code standards provided in the handbook.

  • Administrators, sponsors, coaches, or other persons in charge of an extracurricular activity (or curricular activity such as a concert) may also regulate the dress and grooming of students who participate in school activities. Designated group or team apparel may be designated.

Dress Code Standards & Guidelines

  • Be clean and inoffensive.

  • Cover the abdomen, chest, and undergarments at all times.

  • Shirt Straps must be 3 fingers in length

  • Clothing, accessories, or tattoos with references to alcohol, drugs, sex, tobacco, vulgar language, violence, gang-related affiliation, or other symbols that detract from the learning environment are not allowed.

  • Bottoms must be appropriate. All shorts, skirts, skorts, jumpers, and dresses must extend to mid-thigh or longer when standing.

  • Athleisure tights or leggings worn instead of pants are not allowed

  • Pajamas, bedroom attire, or slippers are not allowed.

  • Closed-toe shoes are required every day.
  • ✅ Athletic/tennis shoes are required for PE.
  • ❌ No sandals, slides, flip-flops, Crocs without sport mode, or other open-toe footwear.
  • Allow hats and head coverings outside of the school buildings, provided they do not obscure the face. Religious and cultural headwear is always acceptable both inside and outdoors.

  • Piercings are ok as long as they are small. No large hoops or large gauges (large=over 16mm or ⅝”). Tapers or spiked gauges are not allowed.

  • Hats, hoods, and scarves are not permitted to be worn inside. Head coverings should never cover students' faces. Headwear worn for religious purposes is acceptable.

  • Students with sensory issues that require modifying the uniform may request an exception. They must provide medical documentation to administrators with the request.

Senior Scoop! Senior Scoop!

THE SENIOR SCOOP!

Class of 2027 Information for Seniors & Families

Welcome to The Senior Scoop! As a new addition to the NYOS Secondary Newsletter, this monthly section will highlight senior-specific reminders, resources, and updates to help families stay informed throughout the year.

Senior year brings many exciting opportunities and a lot of important deadlines. From college and career planning to military options, financial aid, scholarships, graduation, and everything in between, there is a lot to keep track of. Each month, The Senior Scoop will feature a few timely tips, important dates, and helpful information to complement the communication you already receive from NYOS.

What's Happening in CCMR

  • Senior CCMR Kickoff Meeting: On July 31, seniors participated in our first CCMR meeting of the year, where we discussed graduation expectations, postsecondary planning, important timelines, and resources available throughout the year.

  • Transcript Reviews: Seniors are currently reviewing their transcripts to verify credits, graduation requirements, course history, and personal information. Identifying and correcting any discrepancies now helps ensure a smooth path to graduation.

  • Senior Homeroom CCMR Meetings: Throughout the year, seniors will participate in targeted homeroom CCMR meetings focused on key milestones and timely topics such as graduation requirements, transcript reviews, college and career planning, financial aid, scholarships, and other postsecondary preparation. These meetings will occur at strategic points during the year to provide information and support when students need it most.

  • Exploring Every Pathway: CCMR is about preparing students for success after high school, not just college. Throughout the year, students will explore career opportunities, military pathways, apprenticeships, technical education, workforce certifications, and other postsecondary options to help them make informed decisions about their future.

August Senior Tip

  • The Common Application opened on August 1!

If your senior plans to apply to colleges using the Common App, now is a great time to create or update their account, begin completing their profile and activities sections, review essay prompts, and request letters of recommendation.

Coming Soon:

  • TSI Testing – Registration is open for students planning to participate in Dual Credit or who need to meet college readiness requirements.

  • FAFSA/TASFA Family Night (Before Fall Break) – Learn how to prepare for the financial aid process before applications open.

We look forward to sharing a new Senior Scoop each month with updates, reminders, and resources to help make senior year a little less overwhelming and a lot more successful.

📢 TSIA2 Testing Opportunities for Students Interested in Dual Credit

Students and Families,

If your student is interested in taking advantage of Dual Credit opportunities at NYOS in the near future, now is a great time to begin planning for the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA2). Passing the required sections of the TSIA2 is one of the eligibility requirements for many Austin Community College (ACC) Dual Credit courses.

Registration Information
If your child is interested in taking Dual Credit, please note that the TSIA2 registration form is only available through the student's NYOS Google account. Students must be signed into their NYOS account to access and submit the registration form. Parents are encouraged to review the information with their student, but the registration must be completed using the student's NYOS account.

Additional testing details, including the final testing date, time, and location, will be emailed to registered students approximately one week before each test administration.

If you have any questions about the TSIA2, Dual Credit, or determining if your student is ready to begin earning college credit while in high school, please contact Mrs. Pierce, CCMR Counselor & Dual Credit Liaison.

Celebrating Back-to-School Month at NYOS Secondary

Dear NYOS Secondary Families,

As we move further into the school year, we want to remind you of the importance of regularly checking your student's grades. Progress reports are due on August 18, 2026, and this is a great opportunity to stay informed and engaged in your student's academic journey.

Regularly reviewing grades allows you to:

- Catch any concerns early, before they become bigger challenges

- Celebrate your student's successes and growth

- Open the door for meaningful conversations about school at home

- Partner with teachers proactively if extra support is needed

We encourage you to log in to Skyward to review your student's current progress. If you have any questions about accessing the portal or understanding your student's grades, please don't hesitate to reach out to your student's teacher or our front office.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your student's education.

Warmly,

Ms. Edwards

A big congratulations to senior Malachi Dennis and junior Isoke Mitchell on their performances in summer stock Austin's production of NEWSIES! Performing alongside industry professionals and getting hands on experience, all while taking on a very demanding rehearsal and performance schedule (12 shows in 10 days) is very impressive and I am so proud of them. If you see them today, please give them a big high five and let them know how proud our school is of their accomplishments!

Also thank you to everyone who made our field trip to see their performance possible! Seeing live theatre is a great learning experience for young artists.
