A Message from Ms. Osmerg
Dear Jaguar Families,
It has been an amazing start to the second week of school! Every day, I have had the opportunity to visit classrooms and see students and teachers working together to establish strong routines and procedures, dive into learning, and build meaningful relationships. The energy throughout our building has been incredible, and our students are off to a fantastic start.
I love getting into classrooms to see all of the learning that takes place! Ms. Musto and I have been to almost every classroom to read the book Mabel and the Mountain with our students. This story encourages us to think about the challenges we face and the goals we set for ourselves. After reading, students have been writing about their own big plans for the year ahead. Be sure to ask your child if I have visited their classroom yet and, if so, what they learned from Mabel's journey up the mountain!
I would also like to thank our families for helping make morning carpool run so smoothly. Your patience and cooperation have made a tremendous difference. We encourage all families who use carpool to continue utilizing the full arrival window from 7:10 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. For six consecutive school days, we have completed carpool by 7:37 a.m., allowing all students to be in their classrooms and ready to learn by the start of the school day at 7:40 a.m. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a strong start each morning.
As we move through the district's enrollment count process, I want to keep families informed about what happens during these first few weeks of school. School enrollment is reviewed daily during the enrollment count process, and staffing allocations are adjusted based on final enrollment counts. Because of this process, staffing assignments at some grade levels may change if schools gain or lose teaching positions. These adjustments can sometimes affect multiple grade levels as we work to ensure staffing aligns with student enrollment. We are monitoring our numbers closely and staying in regular communication with district staff. We will communicate any updates as soon as information is shared with us through the district-wide enrollment count process.
Finally, if you have new neighbors who have recently moved into our community, please help us spread the word. Some families may not yet realize school has started or may not have completed the registration process. If you know of a family that has not yet enrolled, please encourage them to register online as soon as possible or direct them to our school website for information. Every student counts during the enrollment process, and we appreciate your help connecting new families to our school community.
Thank you for your partnership and support. We are excited about the year ahead and look forward to all the learning, growth, and memories still to come!
Have a #AHE-mazing week!
Jill Osmerg

Beginning of the Year Assessments
Amira Early Literacy Legislation Screener (Kindergarten through 3rd grade)
The state of Georgia has early literacy legislation aimed at improving reading skills among our young learners. We want to make sure you are fully informed about what this means for your child.
What is Georgia’s Early Literacy Legislation?
The legislation is designed to ensure that all students in Georgia develop strong reading skills from an early age. Research shows that children who become proficient readers early in their education are more successful in school and beyond. This law focuses on ensuring all school districts in the state of Georgia have a district-wide process that identifies students needing targeted supports in reading or students demonstrating characteristics of dyslexia. The law also aims to ensure
schools use high-quality materials and evidence-based instruction to support these students and their teachers.
What does this Legislation mean for students?
The primary goal of this legislation is to ensure that all children in Georgia become strong readers by the end of third grade. Reading is a foundational skill that impacts nearly every aspect of learning. By focusing on early literacy, the state aims to address reading challenges before they become more difficult to overcome, setting our students up for future academic success.
What is the process for identifying and helping students in Fulton County Schools?
- Reading Instruction: Our school will use instructional materials aligned to the science of reading that instruct students in foundational literacy skills and grade-appropriate English Language Arts and reading standards, as approved by the State Board of Education.
- Professional Learning: Our teachers will continue to receive training on effective reading instruction aligned to the science of reading to ensure they can provide the best instruction and support to your child.
- Screening: Fulton County Schools will continue to conduct regular reading screeners for students in kindergarten through third grade. This helps us identify students who may need extra support.
- Intervention Support: If a student shows a need for additional support in reading, we will provide targeted support through interventions to help them improve their reading skills.
- Parent Involvement: We will keep you informed about your child’s progress and any additional support they are receiving. We believe that working together will give your child the best chance to succeed. Please contact your school if you prefer your child does not participate in this process.
We are committed to making sure every child receives the support they need to be successful. If you have questions about how this process may impact your student, please contact your student’s school.
District 5 Community Meeting Schedule
Notification of TAG Screening
The consideration for gifted services may be reported or automatic as defined by the GaDOE Resource Manual for Gifted Education Services. The Fulton County School System screens all students for eligibility for gifted services twice a year and uses a systematic approach to identify highly capable students who may qualify for gifted services. The gifted teacher routinely reviews available data to refer students for further assessment. Students meeting either the automatic screening OR the classroom screening criteria AND who have supporting data gathered from test history, products, and/or advanced content levels are referred for additional testing to determine gifted eligibility.
Please see the attachment for further information.
Front Desk Reminders
Please review the guidelines below. Following these procedures will help prevent confusion during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal and ensure a smooth, safe, and consistent transition for all students.
- The bell rings at 7:40 a.m. All students must be in their classrooms by this time. If your student arrives at school at or after 7:40 a.m., please do not leave them outside. A parent or guardian must accompany the student into the building and check them in at the kiosk.
-
The Little Red Cart is available for families who need to drop off items forgotten at home. Please ensure that all items are clearly labeled with:
- The student's first and last name
- The teacher's name
- The student's grade level
Items will be brought inside at approximately 10:20 a.m., before the first lunch period. We encourage you to take advantage of this convenient service.
-
Remember to bring your ID whenever you visit the building. A valid ID is required for activities including, but not limited to:
- Having lunch with your student
- Attending a parent-teacher conference or meeting
- Checking your student out of school
-
Lost and Found: Please stop by periodically to check the Lost and Found for any missing items.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe and efficient school environment for all students.
ACTION ITEM (if purchasing): Device Insurance
During the verification process, families may also choose to enroll in the Optional Student Device Protection Plan. This affordable plan provides coverage for accidental damage, loss, or theft of district-issued devices. Click here for device protection plan information.
Each student in Fulton County Schools (FCS) is issued a school-owned device to support learning in and out of the classroom. The county charges full price for damaged and lost devices. To help families avoid unexpected repair or replacement costs, an Optional Student Device Protection Plan provides affordable coverage throughout the school year. Enrolling in the plan gives families peace of mind and helps ensure that students have uninterrupted access to the technology they need.
What the plan covers: accidental damage, loss or theft, device replacement or repair without disruption to your student’s learning.
How to enroll:
• You may sign up for the Optional Device Protection Plan during the Online Census Verification process in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
