PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, May 15th
Our week started off with our Music for Youth program performing for grades K-3 and it was a beautiful way to start our week. Being serenaded by strings on a Monday morning is how I would like to start every week! It was especially fun to see our Patton musicians performing for us.
Throughout the week it was wonderful to see so many of our Panthers in their element! Whether performing for their peers, raising money for a good cause, or celebrating their friends' achievements, our Panther Pride was out in full force!
This week was good preparation for next week when our 5th Graders take to the stage to perform "The Wizard of Oz"! Every year, Mr Whitaker and the 5th Grade Team (supported by an amazing crew of parent volunteers) bring magic to our stage and this year will be no exception! We are so excited to hit the yellow brick road and go on an "Oz"-some adventure with our 5th Graders!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
Ellie Chin
PIE IN THE FACE FUNDRAISER (NEW POST!)
Pie in the Face is always one of the most anticipated events of the year and our students just love to donate to get the chance to pie their favorite teacher! This year was no exception and this year, we raised over $2200 which will go towards the final Walkathon tally!
We are so grateful to Mrs. Koenig and Mrs. Vincent for organizing this and to our teachers who are great sports and willing to take a pie to the face - Mrs. Goumas, Mrs. Cowen, Mr. Whitaker, Mrs. Anderle, Mrs. Vincent and Mrs. Chin!
19th ANNUAL MAKE-A-WISH WALKATHON (NEW POST!)
We were blown away by the Panther spirit that was in full force this week for our 19th annual Walkathon fundraiser to support Make-a-Wish!!
Every year this event brings joy to our hearts, and this year was no exception! Thank you to everyone who came out and walked laps, supported our Panthers, donated, bought a T-shirt, ordered dinner from Photo's Hot Dogs, and helped make this one of our best years yet!
We know our Panthers are eagerly awaiting the news of our grand total which will be shared next week, but, if we were tallying smiles and joy, I have no doubt we would be in the millions!
Thank you to everyone for supporting us so generously this week, and throughout the past month. We thank you for your generous donations, and for always making this week such a huge success! We must also extend a huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Vincent and Mrs. Koenig for planning and organizing everything, to all the teachers who ran a station and to AHSD25 School Board representatives Deb Tranter and Melissa Buchberger for coming along to share in the joy! Events like this, where our families and staff join together for a great cause, always highlight what a very special community Patton is!
FIELD DAY - TUES., JUNE 2nd (NEW POST!)
We’re so excited for Field Day on Tuesday, June 2nd! To make the day extra fun, please have your child wear the following grade-specific colors:
Kindergarten – Red
1st Grade – Orange
2nd Grade – Yellow
3rd Grade – Green
4th Grade – Blue
5th Grade – 5th Grade T-Shirts
A few important reminders to help your child prepare for the day:
Wear comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes for outdoor activities
Bring a hat if desired for sun protection
Apply sunscreen at home before school
Bring a refillable water bottle—there will be a water station available, but extra hydration is encouraged
Students will participate in two water relay events and may get wet. If your child is uncomfortable about being wet, feel free to pack a change of clothes.
As you arrive, you’ll notice equipment set up across the field in preparation for Field Day. Please remind your child not to touch any of the items. Thank you for your help!
Volunteer For Field Day!
Field Day will take place on Tuesday, June 2nd, from 9am-12pm. If you would like to volunteer, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080844A5A62AA13-63973749-patton
Friendly reminder - this is for current Patton students. Volunteers are asked not to bring younger siblings to the event. Please also be prepared to help run a station, hand out water, help get students from one event to the other, and support our teachers! We really value everyone who signs up for this event, so please come prepared to work! :)
Please note: Only parents who are volunteering should be present at Field Day. We appreciate your understanding that while you are a familiar adult to your child and their friends, you are not a familiar adult to all students or to all other parent volunteers. Field Day Volunteers will be identifiable through their name badges and common wristbands. These are prepared in advance for all parents who sign up to volunteer through the Sign Up Genius. We welcome and appreciate your participation as a volunteer, but ask that you refrain from just stopping by to watch.
LOST AND FOUND (NEW POST!)
115 items of clothing, 12 water bottles, 10 hats, 15 pairs of gloves...and a partridge in a pear tree!!! Believe it or not, that's how many items we currently have in our Lost and Found! We were able to reunite 3 labeled items with their owners.
All items will be outside at drop off and pickup for the next couple of weeks so please take some time to come and have a look or remind your students to come and have a look during the day (we can't promise that it will always look as immaculate as these photos though!) 😃
NWSRA ABILITY AWARENESS PROGRAM (NEW POST!)
Over the past 2 weeks we have been so fortunate to have Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA) send multiple staff members to present their "Ability Awareness" program to our first through fourth graders.
NWSRA Ability Awareness events provide a framework for changing perceptions by providing education and a first-hand look at what it is like to have different types of disabilities. Activities within the Ability Awareness program challenge participants to overcome the same obstacles that individuals with disabilities may encounter when attempting to complete everyday tasks. Our students enjoyed this experience and were able to better understand various disabilities and their impact on daily life. .

GYM, RECESS AND AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES (Ongoing Post)
Excusing Children from PE - Physical Education
Parents may request that their child be excused from Physical Education for one day due to a medical reason. Any absence beyond one day requires a physician’s note.
For elementary students, physician orders must clearly state any restrictions for both Physical Education and Recess. Students who are unable to participate in Physical Education may not participate in school-sponsored sports clubs during that time.
Excusing Children from Outdoor Activities / Recess
Elementary students regularly participate in outdoor activities during Physical Education classes, daily recess, and the lunch period. For the safety of all students, children are expected to go outside during these times unless there is a documented medical reason. If your child needs to remain indoors, a physician’s note is required that specifically states the outdoor restriction.
After School Activities and Events
Students absent from classes on the day of an extracurricular event may not be allowed to participate in that day’s activities or event. Prior planning by parents and school helps eliminate any such conflicts.
