I hope this message finds you all safe and doing well! As we wrap up week two of remote learning, I am encouraged that more of our Wildwood scholars are engaging in their online learning. However, as a school community, we have more work to do in this area. In an effort to make the process as easy as possible, all Wildwood teachers are sending out their "Week at a Glance" every Monday morning by 10 am. This information will show both parents and scholars what the lessons are for the week as well as instructional videos and class Zoom links. We have also committed to doing all of our Kinder-2nd grade Class Zooms on Tuesday, Music/PE on Wednesday, and 3rd-5th grade on Thursday in an effort to be consistent and non-overlapping since we know many of you having multiple children sharing technology. Additionally, we began using the Remind app to text families reminders of daily events. The learning can happen anytime during the day that works for your family. Our staff is here to provide support to you and your child/children. Parents, I am thankful for your support and your partnership as we do our best within the circumstances we have. Please reach out and let us know what support your family may need.

Partnering with parents and having the opportunity to talk about your child's education is so important. Please join Marisa Gines, Assistant Principal, and myself for a virtual Q&A on Monday, May 4th from 3:30-4:30 pm. We will talk about strategies to keep your child engaged in on-line learning and have a time to ask/answer questions. A Zoom invite will be sent out tonight. In the email there will be a link for you to click that will connect you to the Zoom. We look forward to connecting with you.

Message From the Counselor!

Hello Wildwood Wildcats!

How was it being back and seeing your teachers and friends on Zoom? I am sure it feels different. Ms. Davis is sending lots of happy thoughts your way hoping to see you all soon! One of the new things I wanted to share is you can now make an appointment with me. However, before you do you Must ask your parent and invite them to our appointment.

Where can I sign up? So, glad you asked at the bottom of this email there is a link for you to share with your parents/ guardians to sign up. Now that our world has literally changed it seems overnight! It has impacted how we are experiencing school, learning from teachers and how we safely communicate and socialize with others. Our way of connecting with our community has literally changed in a manner of weeks!

So I know there is a lot on your minds, much of which you have to talk about. We will explore some of our shared struggles and how best to cope and even build on that. I am looking forward to hearing about all the new ways you are learning and making positive progress in your new virtual classrooms.

What does PAWS look like at home this week? We are all learning how to be in school, at home. How are you doing with classes being entirely online? How do you feel about seeing friends and teacher in a virtual Zoom classroom?

Which brings me to PAWS

Our third Letter in our PAWS is “W”

W is the letter of today which stands for.....

Work Together: Do your school work during the time you have it scheduled on your daily schedule. Do not be afraid to reach out to your teacher for help. Remember this process is new for all of us and we are all learning as we go. Your questions could not only help yourself but others as well.

Space for learning: Talk it out with your family about what you need to help your online learning space be a success at home. Ask your parents for help to create a learning space that works for you. It may not be the perfect spot but make it work for you. In addition, it will be essential for you to share and take turns, talk it out or make a deal especially if you are using one computer or laptop in your house. You might have to share and take turns or come up with a time each of you can have computer time. It is important that you continue to use your Kelso’s Choices.

A Family Activity - Talent Show: Each family member takes turns performing their talent. You can do a magic trick, tell a joke, act, dance, sing, play an instrument, use your imagination and be creative. Be your own star ⭐️

Exercise Daily: Stay committed to doing some form of daily exercise that you enjoy! Dancing, riding a bike, walking are all good ways to stay active and healthy as we practice social distancing.

Kelso Choices: Remember when you are home with your family and conflict may arise. It is not only about how you feel. It is also about how they feel, put your self in the other person’s shoes. Have empathy for your siblings remember Empathy is feeling or understanding what someone else is feeling. Use your Kelso Choices to talk it out with a family member or find a learning space make a deal, share and take turns when small problems show up.

Toolbox: Your toolbox are the supports you have available to you to help you solve problems and work through conflicts.

Question: What is in your toolbox today?

Answer: Today we talked about Kelso Choices, For example talk it out to get help from parents with finding a comfortable place for learning. Have Empathy with others by seeing things from their point of view Share and take turns or make a deal with siblings if you only have one computer/laptop to use in your household.

Positive Self- talk: “I can learn in a new environment in a different way.”

My final message to you: We believe in you and just know you are capable of greatness.

Parents you can schedule an appointment with me for you or your student using Appointment Plus: (please be sure to be present with your students during the appointment). I have special office hours for these appointments that will appear when you click on the link below. Link: https://booknow.appointment-plus.com/y7e0jgzk/

Stay Happy, calm and healthy,

Ms.Davis
