Buzzy's Fun Run is Coming!

Our school mascot, Buzzy the Bee, is ready to dance, run and rock with our students on September 11th for our BUZZY'S FUN [GLOW] RUN ANNUAL FUNDRAISER! This is an indoor glow event that ALL students get to participate in, and it is a huge hit at NPES! Each year, the Glow Run has generated over $10,000 to help us pay for things exclusively for your students. The funds raised do not go to anything for staff or facilities; only your students. At our school, funding is a little tricky because we receive school-based funding for our kindergarten students, but it is different for our many preschoolers. Therefore, we operate on a very limited budget compared to most elementary students even though we have over 600 students. We don't ever want our students to have a diminished experience in any way, so each year we do two fundraisers - one now and one in November - to help make it a great year. In the past, we have purchased playground equipment, paid for field trips and purchased rewards for our students. This year we are fundraising to pay for field trips for both preschool and kindergarten, to purchase supplies for our many school clubs and to be able to afford monthly incentives for our students (such as ice cream, donuts, movie/popcorn, etc.). Our parents and their generous friends/families have always come through and worked together to make NPES a special place! This fundraiser is completed entirely online; you, as parents, don't have to purchase a thing. All we ask is that you register (starting tomorrow!) and share with family and friends. Grandparents, aunts/uncles, godparents and friends love to support this fundraiser. Kids earn prizes (even just for registering) and one lucky family from NPES will win a stay at Great Wolf Lodge! More info to come, but be watching so you can help us (and your students) out!

Our preschool Open House was fantastic! It was one of the biggest crowds we have had for preschool. We can't wait to welcome our preschoolers on the 26th (3 and 5-day students) and the 27th (2-day students).

The car rider line continues to improve! Thank you so much for your help. Keep that energy and "sense of urgency" going strong so that we can all work together. Remember, if your child is not seated behind the driver's seat, consider moving your child if he/she cannot unbuckle and be ready by the driver side back door. Walking around the car slows everyone down. THANK YOU!!

Pickup Patrol continues to go well. Remember, Mrs. Morgan shared out bus routes several times if you need to save that file. It can be found below. You are also welcome to call the school and we can give you the bus numbers needed when making changes.

Here is the link to those sheets with street names and bus numbers. They have the names of our feeder elementary schools, but they are all our buses: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1J3yJIjE8UfHeC70jqsHWQelJH1ux_DK0WS2UDOlpD0w/edit?usp=sharing

If we can support your family or your child in any way, please do not hesitate to contact our office (or me directly at laurabeth.hayes@hardin.kyschools.us).

Attendance Tips and Info Attendance Tips and Info

Things you may need to know!

We want to have great attendance at North Park. Attendance is typically a growth area for our school, and we want this year to be the year we really improve! Part of the challenge is that young students do get sick more often. That is understandable. However, we want to help students learn GREAT work ethic habits and that starts with great attendance - even in kindergarten. Typically, missing around 8 days or less a school year is very acceptable and to be expected. Sometimes, we encounter situations where students have missed 20-40 days. This is very significant and nearly a month (and more) of instruction. Research - and real life experience - tells us that kids learn and grow the most when they are at school and keep routines.

If your student needs to miss and you have a medical or doctor note, please send those to the emails below.

You may also write 6 parent notes a year.

Excuses need to be submitted within 5 days of the absence or we are not allowed to "count" them.

Attendance can be sent to NPESattendance@hardin.kyschools.us or tiffany.arnold@hardin.kyschools.us

Help add leaves to our tree!

We have a special painted tree in our cafeteria called our "Reading Tree." We add paper leaves to this tree when students read a book at home with family! We get excited to see how many leaves are added to the tree each month. Additionally, students earn a special sticker (like the kind at the doctor's office) each month. They LOVE collecting these seasonal stickers and adding their leaves to the tree. Paper copies of the leaves will go home the first full week of school. You can also print them using the file below. Send in your completed leaves and let's fill our tree for August!

Preschool Parent Meetings

Preschool parent meetings will be held on Monday, August 24th at 8:00 AM or 2:30 PM. These meetings are about 30 minutes in length and allow us (the administrators) to review important information with you before school begins. We would love to see you at one of the meetings so you can help your Tiny Trojan get off to a great start! We encourage at least one family member to attend one of the meetings, if at all possible.

GROW Time Begins!

Grow Time is a special time each day for 30 minutes that we use to help each student get the support - or enrichment needed to GROW! Teachers determine students needs based on classroom observations and assessments and students get to visit a different teacher within their pod/teacher team for 30 minutes. Students either receive enrichment (challenging content if they have already mastered the skills or lessons that week) or intervention (additional support and review of the content). Our goal is for ALL students to grow at least one grade level no matter where they start at the beginning of kindergarten.

August SBDM Meeting

Our school has a Site Based Decision Making Council (SBDM) that is a governing body for the school. It is made up of teacher and parent representatives. Parent representatives were elected last spring. All parents are always invited to attend the meetings. Our August meeting is at 3:00 PM in the school library.
