Head Cheetah Message
Families,
Today our third graders unofficially became Lions, as they participated in a transition trip to Center School! It was a bittersweet day, as they reflected on leaving Memorial School. We will miss them so much next year, but we are confident that they will love being Lions, and that they will continue to do great things!
Next week is our final week of the 2025-26 school year. We will end with an early dismissal on Friday, June 19th. Juneteenth, or June 19th is also a federal holiday; and Connecticut state law mandates that we hold a suitable nonsectarian educational program honoring the holiday. Therefore, there will be a short lesson and related activity in each classroom on the meaning of the holiday that morning.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Best,
Joey & Andrea

Fun Days
Despite some rising temperatures at the end of the week, we had four wonderful Fun Days, led by our coaches, Greg Ruel and Bob Boscarino. Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers who helped keep our stations running smoothly. It’s so wonderful to see our students working together, exhibiting good sportsmanship, and having a blast!
Bellringer Walk
Our annual Bellringer Walk never disappoints. It is such a poignant moment for all of us. Watching our 3rd graders take their final lap around the building, followed by our graduating seniors is so special. The time honestly passes so quickly! Hold onto these memories. Your cheetahs will be Bellringers before you know it!
PRE-K Visits the Yardgoats
The Hartford Yard Goats hosted a special "Pre-K Graduation" night at Dunkin' Park in Hartford, CT; and some of our PreK students attended. The students were able to parade around the field and appear on the Jumbotron before the game. What a fun evening!
PAWSitive Office Referrals
A PAWsitive office referral is submitted when a staff member recognizes a student who is going above and beyond to exemplify one of our three school rules - taking care of others, taking care of self, & taking care of things.
Memorial Models
Memorial Models are chosen weekly by their teacher. These students have excelled all week in taking care of themselves, others and things. The recipients will dine at a VIP table during lunch every Friday!

Order of the Cheetah
This week’s Order Of The Cheetah goes to Mrs. Liz Pezzi. Liz was described by a colleague as being someone who makes exceptional contributions to Memorial School. She strives for excellence in her classroom, and she fosters a sense of belonging and caring for her students. Thanks for all you do, Mrs. Pezzi!
Coaches Corner
Dear Memorial Families,
As we near the end of the school year, we want to make you aware of the various opportunities the district will be offering over the summer months in order to support your learner’s continued engagement with mathematics and literacy. We recognize there are many summer activities for students to support their needs. With participation in any of the activities, your child will be able to maintain their skills over the summer months. Your support in this initiative is greatly appreciated.
Details about these opportunities and how your learner can participate can be found by visiting the district’s Summer Reading & Math website and exploring the available resources and links. All students will receive a hard copy of the district’s Summer Math Packet on Monday June 8th.
Students will receive a hard copy of the district’s Summer Reading Packet during the final week of Library Media. We will communicate a due date for completed summer activities in the fall and look forward to celebrating our students’ efforts with a fun recognition event.
For math related questions, please feel free to contact district math specialists Lis Ellis (K-2) or Andrea Winiarski (3-5).
For literacy related questions, please feel free to contact Rebecca Flannery (Library Media Specialist), Kerry Liebler (K-1 Literacy Specialist) or Abby Skarvelas (2-3 Literacy Specialist).
We hope you have “sum” fun with math and reading over the summer!
~Mrs. Ellis, Ms. Winiarski, Mrs. Flannery, Mrs. Liebler and Mrs. Skarvelas

Notes From the Nurses Office
Sunscreen Policy
The East Hampton Board of Education believes in promoting sun safety to ensure that children are protected from skin damage caused by harmful ultra-violet rays in sunlight. The Board believes that by encouraging sun safe behavior and teaching children about the risks of sunlight, they can be protected from skin damage and lessen the risk of skin cancer.
New legislation (P.A. 19-60) allows school students, six years of age or older, to possess and self-apply an over-the-counter sunscreen product while in school prior to engaging in any outdoor activity, provided a written authorization is signed by a student's parent/guardian and is submitted to the school nurse.
**Please contact the school nurse if you need an authorization form for sunscreen application.
The sunscreen must be non-aerosol and must be approved by the FDA for over-the-counter use for the purposes of limiting ultraviolet light-induced sun damage.
Any questions and or concerns you can contact the nurse's office 860-365-4020 Ext. 816
