The OMS Community Newsletter
Week of May 5 - May 9, 2025
This week was Teacher Appreciation Week and Wednesday was School Nurse Appreciation Day! Thank you to our amazing teachers and school nurses for all that they do for our students!
Principal's Message
Dear OMS Families,
We have had a busy week at OMS this week! Our Booster Bash fundraiser has continued this week, students participated in Math MCAS testing, and students attended team-assembly meetings.
Grade 6 and 7 students are done with MCAS tests for the year if they have completed both their ELA and Math tests. Grade 8 is halfway done with testing! They have their Science, Technology, and Engineering (STE) MCAS test on Tuesday, May 13th and their Civics MCAS test on Wednesday, May 28th.
Administration and School Counselors held team assembly meetings with students this week. They encouraged students to finish off the school year strong with only a few more weeks of school. They reviewed our school-wide expectations of respect, responsibility, and readiness and provided reminders for students' behaviors at school. Check your email for a copy of the presentation.
Earlier this week, an important safety update was emailed and texted to families. There is a viral Tik Tok challenge that involves inserting objects, such as paper clips or staples, into the charging ports of their school-issued Chromebooks, personal electronic devices, or electrical outlets. This behavior is extremely hazardous and has the potential to cause the device to spark, short-circuit, or even catch fire. Please talk to your child about the dangers and risks associated with this trend. This trend poses a serious safety threat to students and staff. If a student tries this at school, it results in intentional damage to school property and will result in disciplinary consequences.
We appreciate your support and partnership at home. I also want to wish families a Happy Mother's Day!
Sincerely,
Katrina Crowley
OMS Principal

Booster Bash Color Splash Fundraiser
Due to weather, the Booster Bash Color Splash event is postponed to Monday, May 12th! Students will receive a white t-shirt at school on Monday morning. Students should wear sneakers they don’t mind getting dirty.
Thank you to all students and families who have participated in the Boosterthon. We have raised $11,242 so far! The grand prize giveaway winner of the Nintendo Switch will be announced at the bash on Monday. Top earners will also get the chance to pie a teacher in the face! There is still time to participate for those who would like at mybooster.com, but the fundraiser ends on Monday.
Registration has been extended will remain open until Monday so there is still time to register! Help us reach our goal of 30% of each grade registered. Right now, 25% of 6th grade is registered, 27% of 7th grade is registered, and 11% of 8th grade is registered.
Bus Registration is OPEN for 25-26
Bus registration for the 2025-2026 school year will begin at 4pm on Monday, May 5 and continue until Tuesday, June 17 – the last day of school. Students entering grades K-12 are eligible to apply.
The School Committee voted to bring back the bus fees for the 2025-2026 school year. The cost to ride the bus is $375.00 per student with a family cap of $750.00.
Massachusetts General Law requires school departments to provide transportation for any student in Grades K-6 who live more than 2 miles from their assigned school. If your student is planning on taking the bus, you still MUST complete a bus application, even if you live more than 2 miles for their assigned school.
Parents/guardians will access the bus application in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
Instructions on how to register can be found on our website.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Parents must complete a bus application EVERY YEAR for EACH CHILD. Students are not automatically placed on a bus for the following year.
- Bus applications will be processed in the order they are received. There are limited seats and we cannot guarantee all students that meet the deadline will be placed on a bus. We will not have a waiting list or reopen the application in the fall!
If you have any questions, please contact the Transportation Department via email at Transportation@stoughtonschools.org.
SEMSBA Festival
Several SPS music students participated in the Jr. SEMSBA festival at Oliver Ames on May 2 and 3. Students were selected for this festival based on a competitive audition process back in February. At the festival, students rehearsed with students from all over southeastern Massachusetts for a day and a half before performing in a concert for a packed crowd of their families and friends. Congratulations to SPS band students Tori Chaisson, Mariana Kramer, Zena Uwaifo, and SPS chorus students Avery Gross, Amanda De Almeida, Kamayani Slaughter, Jascelie Champagne-Milard, Ugo Chukwu, and Ruby Machula on their participation in the festival.
Grade 8 Class Day
The 8th Grade Class Day Promotion Ceremony will take place on Monday, June 16, 2025 at noon in the Stoughton High School Auditorium.

The 8th Grade Class Day Ceremony celebrates the successful completion of the middle school program. More specific details will follow as the date approaches.
