ESL Waivers Focus
The focus from February through April is on Principle 3: Tracking processes will identify teacher needs and student academic and linguistic outcomes to guide instructional practices in campus and district plans. Your leadership in monitoring these areas and supporting teachers is essential to maintaining high-quality instruction for our EB students. Thank you for your continued commitment.
Campus Principal will:
Monitor the linguistic and academic progress of EB students served by a teacher under an ESL waiver.
Monitor that the alternative methods are closely aligned to the required ESL program.
Continue to collaborate with the Bilingual Department and HR to support non-appropriately certified teachers as they prepare for certification.
Continue to collaborate with BESL and HR to assist non-appropriately certified teachers as they prepare for certification. At this time teachers calendarize when they will attempt the certification ESL test, document meeting date/notes as you meet with teachers.
Ensure teachers under an ESL waiver attend professional development sessions to prepare for the certification test and receive CBLI practices.

MTSS
MTSS & STAAR Accommodations
All STAAR Accommodations have now been reviewed and shared back with campus administration. To ensure our students are ready for testing, please complete the following steps:
eSped Entry & Archiving: Please ensure your campus Testing Admin enters all approved accommodations into eSped and archives them immediately. This step is critical to ensure the data correctly syncs with TestHound. There is a guide linked with visuals to guide you through that in the MTSS Google Classroom on the "Testing Accommodations Procedures" sheet.
Reviewing Denials: If any student accommodation requests were denied, I have included detailed notes explaining the reasoning.
Follow-up: If you would like to discuss specific denials or need further clarification, please reach out to me directly to schedule a time for review.
Retention Notices
Round 1: The first round of retention notices should have been sent by the end of January. If these are still pending, please distribute them immediately.
- Round 2: The second round of notices is scheduled to go out by March 23rd. At that time you will share your copy of the retention spreadsheet with your E.D., myself, and Mrs. Terrazas.
- The spreadsheet template as well as detailed guidance can be found in the MTSS Google Classroom.(Classwork>Support Guides>SWISD Retention Guidelines)
HB 1416 – Accelerated Instruction
Weekly Data Updates
Please remind teachers that all HB 1416 data must be updated weekly. This documentation is vital and must include:
Minutes from Progress Learning/IXL, tutoring time, and small group instruction for all on-grade-level tested content.
Withdrawals & Dashboards
Student Withdrawals: If a student withdraws, ensure your HB 1416 point of contact notes this on your Campus HB 1416 Spreadsheet. This allows for the adjustment of required hours so campus percentages are not negatively impacted.
Dashboard: The District HB 1416 Dashboard remains available for reference in the MTSS Google Classroom.
