⭐ First Full Week ⭐

Dear Stingers Families,

As we gear up for our first full 5-day week, we are excited to keep our positive momentum going strong. Tomorrow, September 14th, marks an exciting day as we warmly welcome our PEEP students for their very first day. Our PEEP teachers are ready to greet these students with open arms and big smiles!

🏫We’re also thrilled to invite everyone to our Open House this Thursday from 4:00–5:30 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s teachers, explore classrooms, and learn more about the great year ahead. PTO meeting immediately following Open House.

📸Picture Day is Coming this Wednesday, September 16th
Please mark your calendars to ensure your child looks their best for this special day!

Volunteer Background Check Information
We love having volunteers who support our school community in so many ways—field trips, Popcorn Fridays, classroom reading, and more. To keep all our students safe, volunteers entering the building where students are present must have a background check on file. Forms are available in the office if you’re interested in becoming an approved volunteer. Once approved, the background check is valid for 6 months before needing renewal. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Here’s to another amazing week of learning, growth, and community!

Warm regards,

-Principal Aaron Mason

Attendance Matters

Here are steps we take at Washington to support our students and families attendance:

  • Report your absences so they are not unexcused. You can call or email our secretary, Mrs. Howells-Douglas to report these absences. Her email is: howellsdouglaskj@kalamazoopublicschools.net. Email works the best. Voicemail works, but takes the longest for us to get to, so you might get an absent letter until we have a chance to listen to the voicemails and update the system.
  • School Wide and Classroom Incentives that support school attendance when students are healthy and able to attend.
  • Individual Student Plans- If your child is struggling with social emotional reasons for not wanting to come to school, please reach out to your classroom teacher and our home support specialist Ms. Sutton, suttonhj@kalamazoopublicschools.net.
  • Finally, we support our students' and families' by getting to know them and their specific needs. If a family works with our secretary and their classroom teacher on special circumstances, such as weekly doctor appointments, we document this and take this into consideration.
