VOLLEYBALL AT LIACOURAS CENTER
Even though our Volleyball team was not able to pull off the upset against nationally-ranked Penn State on Friday, Sept. 8, what a great atmosphere was on display for our program and the sport. Over 2,400 fans attended the first ever volleyball match at the Liacouras Center and Coach Linda Hampton-Keith and her team fought valiantly in the match.
CHAMPIONS DAY AND KLECKO HONORED
For the second straight year Temple Athletics will be honoring the anniversary years of our championship teams and individuals at halftime of our Champions Day football game against Miami (Fla.) on September 23. Also, at the game we will celebrate our all-time Football great Joe Klecko, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this summer. What a great day to be a Temple Owl!! Hope to see you there.
HOMECOMING AND HALL OF FAME
Speaking of big days ahead, Homecoming is coming up quickly and our Owls will be hosting one of the best teams in the AAC, Texas San Antonio on Saturday, October 7. Along with our Homecoming festivities, we will induct our newest members into the Temple Athletics Hall of Fame at halftime of the game. This is a special day and I look forward to welcoming this well-deserving group of individuals into the Hall!
WELCOME NEW SAAC EXECUTIVE BOARD
A new year means a new Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Executive Board. Congrats to incoming President Madelyn Fox from the women’s rowing team and Vice President Taylor Davenport from the women’s volleyball team and the rest of the 2023-24 SAAC Board. FALL SPORTS ROUNDUP
It was great to see our Owl family back in the stands for a thrilling Football victory over Akron at Lincoln Financial Field. After a tough game on the road at Rutgers last weekend, the Cherry & White will be back home the next two Saturdays against Norfolk State and Miami. Tickets are on sale now and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone cheer on our Owls.
Women’s Volleyball continued its hot start, beginning the season 6-1 before falling to No. 12 Penn State in the first-ever match at the Liacouras Center. While the result was not what we wanted, I was thrilled to see a crowd of 2,468 in attendance, the second most in program history. It was a great night for the program, and for Temple Athletics. I want to thank our staff that made it possible and everyone who attended.
Field Hockey went 2-2 over the last two weeks. The squad dropped a pair of games to Yale and No. 6 Virginia, before rebounding with wins over LIU and James Madison. The team opens BIG EAST play with UConn Friday and will face Lehigh on the road Sunday.
Women’s Soccer earned its first win on August 31st against Lehigh. The team opens conference play Thursday against South Florida.
Men’s Soccer, in the midst of a three-game slide, will look to rebound at FIU this Saturday.
