GMS Information and Announcements
GMS Families,
As we reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminded of his enduring message of love, unity, and the power of positive change. Dr. King’s vision of a world where people are judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character continues to inspire us as individuals and as a school community.
At Greeneville Middle School, we have an opportunity every day to live out Dr. King’s principles. His call for justice and equality challenges us to embrace kindness, practice empathy, and stand up for what is right. When we support and celebrate one another, regardless of our differences, we build a stronger, more inclusive GMS family.
Here are a few ways we can honor Dr. King’s legacy together:
- Choose Respect: Speak and act with kindness, even in moments of disagreement.
- Promote Unity: Work together to create an environment where everyone feels valued and included.
- Serve Others: Look for ways to help those in need, whether it’s lending a hand to a classmate or volunteering in our community.
- Stand Up for What’s Right: Be courageous in addressing unfairness, and model integrity in your actions.
Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’” Let’s carry this question with us and use it to guide how we interact with one another, not just during this season of reflection, but throughout the year. Together, we can create a school culture that truly reflects the values of compassion, fairness, and hope for the future.
As a GMS family, let’s commit to living out Dr. King’s dream, one kind act at a time.

GCS Daddy Daughter Dance
The Greeneville City Schools (GCS) Education Foundation announces their 19th annual Daddy-Daughter Dance on Saturday, February 1, from 7-9PM.
This year’s dance will be held at the Greeneville High School Gymnasium in order to accommodate the crowd of daddies and daughters that have made attending this event a family tradition.
Beginning January 20, advance tickets are available at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center (NPAC) ticket office. Box office hours are M-F, 10am – 5pm. Advance tickets are $10 and may be purchased with cash or check (to GCSEF) - sorry, no credit or debit cards. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the dance if venue space allows. Tickets purchased at the door will be $15.00. Tickets may also be purchased online through the GCSEF website (https://www.gcseducationfoundation.net/).
Professional photography will be available at the event provided by Mrs. Rachel Redmon and Mrs. Stephanie Callahan, Art Teachers at Greeneville High School. They will be assisted by GHS photography students, and members of the GSIA Council. The optional portrait packages are reasonably priced and must be paid for on dance night at the time the photos are taken. Portrait information sheets will be included in an information packet that will be provided at the time dance tickets are purchased. Proceeds from portrait packages will directly benefit the GHS Art program.
At 7pm, Electric Avenue’s Robbie Britton will kick-off the event with two hours of dance tunes specially selected for the evening.
“We hope daddies and their daughters will be eager to return to the event and spend some special time together. The GCS Education Foundation and the GSIA partnered to host this event nineteen years ago, and it’s been a huge success. For the majority of the attendees, this event has become a family tradition. We’ve always had a full house of daddies and daughters from throughout the region. They’ve laughed, danced, and had a marvelous time”, said Amanda Waddell, GCS Education Foundation Executive Director.
Profits from this event benefit the Greeneville Schools in Action (GSIA) scholarship program, and the GCS Education Foundation FOCUS Grant program.
In the unlikely event that inclement weather forces a cancellation, the dance will not be able to be rescheduled. Unfortunately, tickets cannot be returned for refund.

GMS Attendance Policy Reminders
Attendance Matters: Stay on Track!
- All students have 3 additional parent notes to excuse absences for the new semester
- All notes (parent or doctor) must be submitted within 2 days of the student returning to school
- Notes can be submitted in three ways:
- Online (GMS website>Menu>Parents>Online Absentee Reporting) or use this link. This is the best method to ensure notes aren't 'forgotten' in backpacks.
- Dropped-off in the office
- Placed in the black mailbox in the commons (near the office windows/trophy case).
- Chronic Absenteeism (missing more than 10% of days total, even if all absences are excused with doctor's notes) is cumulative for the entire school year.
- All unexcused absences and unexcused morning tardy/early check-outs are cumulative for the entire school year and follow the GMS Attendance Policy Guidelines.
