We are Emerson Elementary
November 2025
Hello Emerson Elementary Families!
At Emerson Elementary, our theme “Together we learn; together we grow” continues to shine throughout our classrooms each day. Our students are growing their brains as they dive into grade-level learning through hands-on activities, creative projects, technology integration, and meaningful writing experiences. We are proud of their progress and the enthusiasm they bring to learning! Our dedicated teachers are committed to creating engaging lessons that inspire curiosity and confidence in every child. We are truly honored to partner with you in supporting your student’s educational journey—together, we’re helping every child learn and grow to their fullest potential.
This month at Emerson Elementary, our focus is “Thankful to Grow Together.” Gratitude is more than just saying “thank you”—it’s recognizing and appreciating the good in our lives and the people around us. When students learn to practice gratitude, they develop empathy, kindness, and a positive mindset that helps them grow both academically and personally.
Families can help nurture gratitude at home by:
-
sharing something you're thankful for each day at dinner or bedtime,
writing simple thank-you notes together,
- encouraging children to notice and express appreciation for the little things others do for them.
Modeling gratitude—through words and actions—helps children see how powerful a thankful heart can be in strengthening relationships and building a joyful community.

Gratitude
Monthly Character Trait
Elementary students can show gratitude by saying "please" and "thank you," drawing or writing thank-you notes, helping others, and making gratitude lists or journals. They can also express appreciation through actions like making art, contributing to a gratitude jar, or volunteering in their community.
Verbal and written expression
- Say "please" and "thank you": This is a simple but effective way to show appreciation for small favors.
- Write thank-you notes: Have students write or draw notes to thank people for gifts or kindness.
- Create a gratitude journal: Students can write down one thing they are grateful for each day in a notebook.
- Make a gratitude list: Encourage them to list things they are thankful for, whether big or small.
Creative and artistic expression
- Make thank-you art: Students can draw a picture or create a craft for someone they appreciate.
- Start a gratitude jar: Decorate a jar and have each family member or student write down things they are grateful for on small slips of paper to put inside.
- Build a gratitude mandala: Gather natural items like sticks and leaves to create a collaborative art piece that represents things they are thankful for.
Action-oriented gratitude
- Help others: Assist a neighbor, family member, or volunteer to help those less fortunate.
- "Pay it forward": Encourage students to help someone else after they have received help.
- Volunteer: Help out at a local soup kitchen or non-profit organization.
Reflective practices
- Share at mealtimes: Ask everyone to share one thing they are grateful for at dinner.
- Practice gratitude walks: Go for a walk and point out things in the environment that you appreciate, like a beautiful tree or a sunny day.
- Notice awe-inspiring moments: Take time to notice and comment on things like a beautiful sunset or a funny interaction.
October Student Celebration
What a pleasure it is to celebrate our students and the great work and learning they are accomplishing. We celebrated our students who exemplified the character trait of Empathy, perfect attendance for the month of October, birthdays, and individual grade certificates.
