Recycling Collections for March and April

In honor of Global Recycling Day (March 18) and Earth Day (April 22), the Talley Green Team is overseeing TWO special recycling collections.

COLLECTION #1: Small Food Packaging (Through March 27)

Items to collect:

  • Sauce/Condiment Packets
  • Sauce Dipping Cups/Jam Cups
  • Soufflé Cups and Lids
  • Coffee Creamer Pods

While this special program is organized by Taco Bell and TerraCycle, all product brands will be accepted, not just Taco Bell packaging. Please remove as much of any remaining product as possible from sauce/condiment packets; creamer pods, soufflé cups and dipping cups should be rinsed to remove food residue and dried before bringing them to school. One student from each grade who brings in the most items for collection will earn 15 points for their house. NOTE: A minimum of 20 items must be turned in to Mrs. Roberts to earn house points.

COLLECTION #2: PET #1 Plastic Beverage Bottles (March 19 through April 16)

In the three weeks leading up to Earth Day, Talley will be competing against other local schools to collect the most plastic beverage bottles (those with a #1 in the recycling symbol). The winner will be announced at the Live Thrive Kids Day on April 25. Talley families are encouraged to recycle plastic beverage bottles at home, just as we do with plastic film, and bring them to school on Thursday, April 16. Bottles should be rinsed of any liquid residue, and caps should be replaced. Houses that bring in the most bottles on that day will earn points. Six Houses, One Talley!

Plastic Film for House Points

Many thanks to all who sent in plastic film for our March 11 collection! Together, we diverted almost 93 pounds of plastic film from the landfill, which brings our school-year total to almost 900 pounds. House points were awarded to Altruismo and Reveur (tied for First), Amistad (Second) and Nukumori (Third). Our next collection for house points will be Wednesday, April 22 (after spring break).

KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING! Do you like having plastic film collection at school? Help us continue to earn free pick-ups for the 2026-2027 school year by recruiting families for our Ridwell membership drive. All we need is 10 families to sign up for home pick-up service or mail-in service (new this year!) by May 22 through our Talley sign-up link: https://get.ridwell.com/talley. We appreciate your support!

Sustainability in Action

A shout-out to Ms. Brown's Third Grade class for reducing food packaging waste by serving bulk-quantity snacks during snack time. We also celebrate our Cafeteria Crew, who have been reducing waste by collecting coffee cups, K-cups and rubber gloves for recycling. Way to be green!
