Weekly Update to Families
January 6th

Dear St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy Families,
This past Tuesday, we gathered as a school community for our annual State of the Academy event—a meaningful evening to reflect on the year’s progress, share important updates, and look ahead to the future of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy. One of the key announcements of the evening was that Mrs. Cathy Kenny will be retiring at the end of this school year after 25 years of dedicated service to the Diocese of Brooklyn. In light of her retirement, we are excited to introduce a new leadership model beginning in the summer of 2025, which will include two assistant principals to better support our students, faculty, and families. We are proud to share that Mrs. Maureen Hayes will continue to serve as the Assistant Principal of Student Life, and Mrs. Danielle Farragher will serve as the Assistant Principal of Instructional Support. We are confident that this leadership structure will strengthen our mission and enhance the daily experience of everyone in our school community.
For all of the information and highlights discussed at the State of the Academy, please click the document below to view the full presentation.
Finally we are looking forward to this Tuesday 5/20 for our annual May Crowning, where our second grade students will lead us in this beautiful and reverent celebration. Parents of our 2nd graders are welcome to attend (Tuesday 5/20 at 11:00 AM), yet please note there is limited seating in the back of the church. We ask that parents and families remain seated or standing in the back of the church and refrain from coming up to take photos during the prayer service. At the end of the service, we will invite families forward for pictures of the children.
We are asking that all 2nd grade students come to school dressed in their Communion attire. Please send in a large shirt to wear over their clothing. All students should wear dress shoes. Please also note that May 20th is a ½ day for second grade students.
Dr. Christopher Scharbach
Principal
PS: We hope all the girls of our schools and their sweethearts have a great time tonight.
Upcoming i-Ready Diagnostic Assessments
All students in Kindergarten through 7th grade will begin their third and final round of i-Ready Diagnostic testing on Friday May 23rd. Students will complete both the i-Ready Math Diagnostic and the i-Ready Reading Diagnostic assessments.
These diagnostics help us measure your child’s growth over the school year and provide valuable insights to guide instruction. Once testing is completed for all students, we look forward to sharing their progress and results with you.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help each child succeed!
Dress Down Day – Friday, May 23
Friday, May 23rd, students are invited to participate in a $1 Dress Down Day by wearing purple in recognition of Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month.
Cystic Fibrosis is one of the most common genetic diseases, impacting the lungs and digestive system. It occurs when a person inherits two defective CFTR genes – one from each parent. Roughly 1 in 25 people in the U.S. are carriers of a mutated CFTR gene, often without even knowing it.
Let’s raise awareness and show our support by wearing purple Friday 5/23! 💜
5th- 8th Grade Finals
This is a reminder to the Class of 2025 that Finals begin this week for Grade 8. Please be sure that the 8th-grade students put in the effort needed to do well on these exams. Starting on Tuesday, June 3rd, Finals begin for Grades 5-7. Please be sure that students in 5th-7th grade do not wait until the night before to begin to study for these exams.
Summer Uniform
Starting this past week, students could begin to wear their summer uniforms again. Please see below for more information. As a reminder, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy is a uniform school, not a dress code school—all uniforms must be purchased from Flynn & O’Hara to ensure consistency and adherence to our school standards.
Last Tuition Payment- 5/15/25
Just a reminder that this past Thursday, May 15th the final tuition payment was due for the 2024-2025 school year. We do ask that all tuition arrears are settled over the next few weeks. We will continue the payment schedule of tuition for the 2025-2026 school year from August 2025-May 2026. Any tuition questions please contact our bookkeeper Marguerite Kazalski at mkazalski@stfrancisschoolbh.net.
For more information on next year's tuition rates please click the link below.
Records for Next Year
If any child is transferring from St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy for the 2025-2026 school year, most likely their records will need to be sent to their new school. Please request that as soon as possible yet no later than the end of May as many schools are closed for the summer and ask for that information before we break for summer.
