Dear District 67 Families:
As we approach Halloween, and I prepare to join my four children on the trick-or-treat trail, I want to share some important safety guidelines for our District 67 students and families from Mr. Chuck Walsh, Director of Safety and Security.
Sincerely,
Matthew L. Montgomery, Ph.D.
Superintendent
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the much-anticipated Halloween festivities, the safety of our students remains our top priority. Halloween is a joyful and exciting time for children, and it's essential that we ensure their safety. To this end, I would like to share some safety tips for Halloween that we encourage all our students to follow:
Before you and your children go trick-or-treating, remember these tips:
- Eat a snack before heading out to avoid the temptation of nibbling on a treat before it has been inspected
- Tell children not to accept — or eat — anything that isn’t commercially wrapped
- Parents of very young children should remove any choking hazards such as gum, peanuts, hard candies, or small toys from the Halloween bags
- Inspect commercially wrapped treats for signs of tampering, such as an unusual appearance or discoloration or tears in wrappers. Throw away anything that looks suspicious
- A responsible adult should accompany young children on the neighborhood rounds
- If your older children are going alone, bring a flashlight or glow sticks and share planned routes
- Agree on a specific time children should return home
- Remind your children never to enter a stranger's home or car
- Instruct children to travel only in familiar areas and if they have a cell phone opt for location sharing with a trusted adult
- Apple air tags can be placed in trick or treat bags or in pockets to track location
- Trick-or-Treating hours in Lake Forest are Tuesday, October 31, 2023 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm!
- Trick-or-Treating hours in Lake Bluff are from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm!
It's crucial to have open conversations with your children about these safety tips to ensure they understand the importance of following them. We are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable Halloween experience for all our students. If you have any questions or concerns about Halloween safety, please don't hesitate to contact our school office.
Thank you for your cooperation, and we wish you and your children a happy and safe Halloween!
Sincerely,
Charles (Chuck) Walsh
Director of Safety and Security
