Prayer for the School Year

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the gift of our families. Thank you for the gift of love, of life, and of community. Lord, we trust you with everything in our lives and our most precious gift: children and family.

As we prepare for the school year ahead, we pray for our children as they prepare for another year of learning. We pray that in all that they do they will be guided by you and by your Holy Church. We pray for our schools, for school administrators, for all who work behind the scenes, and for the wonderful ways your work to bring everything together for another year of school.

We also lift prayers for all parents, educators, and homeschooling families. We pray that all parents become more aware and more involved in the lives of the children at school, at home, and in the community.

We lift prayers for safety for all children, especially those who are educated away from home. May they feel safe and secure and protected from all harm.

We pray for decision makers within our communities, that they will always keep in mind the welfare of families and of children.

Lord, you love families more than we can imagine. You wish for our children to be blessed, protected, educated, and cared for. We pray that through the intercession of your Mother Mary that this upcoming school year is fruitful, productive, and most of all blessed by you and your teachings.

We ask this in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Dear Families,

A very warm welcome back to this new school year. A new year brings with it, new beginnings and the opportunity for new growth. I am always excited at the prospect of watching our students achieve their personal best and grow in their learning.

School capital works

You may have noticed that there were a few improvements over the school holidays across the school also. The new resurfaced courts at the centre of our school, provide an improved playing surface as well as a much more visually appealing presentation. A fresh coat of paint and new flooring in the hall has also made a significant improvement in the presentation of this much-utilised common space.

Thank you also to our hard-working Grounds person, Mr Mick, who worked tirelessly over the summer break to install paving in the rear entrance garden, undertake a multitude of maintenance tasks, and ensure that our gardens and lawns were looking beautiful.

Parent / Teacher Evening

Thank you to the families who attended last nights Parent Information session. Teachers will be sharing all information via Seesaw in the comings days for those parents unable to attend a class session.

Code of Conduct

As discussed at last nights meeting, I ask all parents to refamiliarise themselves with our Code of Conduct. This document is a CEWA developed document, and is utilised by all CEWA schools. It provides a framework (or set of norms) to ensure that school communities continue to operate harmoniously.

As always, parents are always encouraged to resolve or raise any concerns they may have regarding their child, directly with the school.

The Code of Conduct document can be found HERE

ICT Guidelines

Please famliarise yourself with our ICT Policy and Guidelines, which can be located on our school website and via THIS LINK.

We would appreciate if parents can support these guidelines by regularly discussing the importance of responsible ICT use with their children.

Congratulations & Good Luck

Congratulations to Harrison De Longville in PrePrimary, and his parents Sarah and Damian, who welcomed a baby girl, Madison into their family over the holiday period.

We also extend our very best wishes to Mrs Amanda Cochrane, who embarks on maternity leave at the end of Week 3. Amanda, her husband Matt and son, Harrison will be excitedly awaiting the arrival of their second child - a little boy!

OLGC School Values

This term, our school value focus is LOVE. We encourage all families to support this value by discussing with your child how they can demonstrate love in their everyday actions. Love is shown through simple yet powerful acts such as:

  • Showing kindness to others
  • Sharing with friends and classmates
  • Offering help when needed
  • Being inclusive and welcoming
  • Assisting at Mass, whether by altar serving or setting up
  • Celebrating the successes of others

By embodying these acts of love, we can create a caring, supportive community where everyone feels valued. We thank you for your ongoing support in nurturing these important values at home!

2025 Jubilee Year: Pilgrims of Hope

The Holy Father has decided that 2025 will be a year of Jubilee, something which happens every 25 years. The theme is “Pilgrims of Hope”, and is a year of hope for a world suffering the impacts of war, the ongoing effects of COVID-19 pandemic, and a climate crisis.

The word Jubilee comes from the Hebrew word yobel, which is a ram's horn. This wind instrument is blown to mark the start of a Jubilee Year in the Bible (Leviticus 25:9).

In the Bible the Jubilee Year occurred every 50 years and involved the cancelling of debts, a period of rest for people and the earth, and land being restored to the landless.

In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus makes clear his own mission is to bring Jubilee. In the synagogue at Nazareth he reads from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah, proclaiming the year of the Lord's favour:

The Spirit of the Lord has been given to me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim the Lord's year of favour." (Luke 4:18-19)

After reading, Jesus announces: “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." Jesus shows us what God's Kingdom of justice, compassion and freedom looks like. He invites us join him in making it a reality.

Sacraments

The sacraments are at the heart of the life of the Church. Through these gifts, God’s faithful ‘are given access to the stream of divine grace which flows from the paschal mystery of the passion, death, the resurrection of Christ’ (SC 61). The Church teaches us that the sacraments require faith which is the ‘first stage of human salvation’ (Council of Trent). As a community we are asked to work together to provide every opportunity for the gift of faith, implanted in children through Baptism, to be properly nurtured, bearing fruit in discipleship, empowered by the Confirming Spirit and continually inserted into and drawing life from the Paschal Mystery in the Eucharist.

Thank you to the parents/caregivers of students in Years 3, 4 and 6 for attending Tuesday nights Sacramental Parent Meeting. Following this meeting, parents/caregivers are invited to present their child to the community at one of the following masses:

Our Lady of Good Counsel Church – 8am

16 February 2025, 23 February 2025 OR 2 March 2025

St Dominic’s Church – 9.30am

It is important that all sales and swaps are done without consuming the precious resources of the school. Please contact each other directly and don't ask the office to hold items awaiting pick up.
