It's "Snow" Secret! Beck is a great school!
Thank you Beck Family Volunteers! (BFV)
Mrs. Parker must have jinxed outdoor recess because the moment these sleds came in from Amazon, the weather turned very cold and we have been inside ever since! So we are all excited today as the temperature warmed up enough to let us head out outdoors and get some fresh air! Thank you, Beck family volunteers for indulging Mrs. Parker in this idea and purchasing the sleds. The kids are having a blast!
Parking Lot Flow
The flow of traffic goes one way around the entire parking loop. Following the flow keeps everyone moving safely and smoothly.
If you need to park and walk your child to the building, please park in the main parking lot and use the designated crosswalks to enter the school.
Parent parking is not permitted in the bus loop. Per district guidelines, parent drop off and parking cannot take place where buses load and unload.
Staff parking is allowed in the bus loop, but parent parking is not. If you have children at Shelby Junior High, you may have noticed the same practice there. Only staff park in areas shared with buses.
During peak arrival and dismissal times, left turns onto Hayes are not permitted. Please turn right when exiting the lot to keep traffic flowing and reduce backups.
Please do not cut through parking spaces. Small children can be hard to see behind vehicles, and we want to do everything possible to keep our Vikings safe.
And finally, a gentle reminder…
Turn on your favorite song, sip your coffee, take a deep breath, and enjoy a calm moment before heading off to your next stop. A few extra seconds of patience go a long way in keeping everyone safe. ☕🎶
Carrer Focus Sponsors! Now is the time!
Each spring, our 6th graders participate in the Career Focus Event, a meaningful experience designed to help students explore the wide world of careers and begin imagining their own futures. This event brings students together with local professionals and businesses who share what they do, how they got there, and what skills matter most in the real world.
Held at Palazzo Grande, this special setting helps elevate the experience and makes the day feel exciting and memorable for students. Through hands on conversations and engaging presentations, students learn about career pathways, workplace skills, and the many possibilities that await them beyond middle school.
This long standing event, now in its 32nd year, is supported by the UCS Foundation and community partners who believe in investing in students early. The goal is simple but powerful to spark curiosity, build relevance, and help students see the connection between school and life beyond the classroom.
Would you like to attend? Be a sponsor!
At Beck, we love how connected our Viking families are to the community, and this is one of those moments where that connection really shines.
If the company or organization you are associated with is looking for a meaningful way to give back, we would love for you to consider becoming a Career Focus sponsor. Sponsorships help make this incredible day at Palazzo Grande possible and directly support an engaging, high quality experience for our students.
It is a wonderful way to support 6th graders as they explore future careers, highlight your organization as a community partner, and invest in the next generation of learners and leaders.
Thank you for always showing up for our Beck Vikings. We truly could not do this without our amazing community.
Sixth Grade Families, take note!

Young 5s and Kindergarten Registration
Got a future Viking at home? 🐾💙 Kindergarten and Young 5s registration for the 2026–27 school year opens January 5, 2026, and we’re excited to welcome our newest learners to the Beck community! Families with children whose birthdays fall between September 1 and December 1 are strongly encouraged to have their child screened for consideration for our Young 5s program. Designed with our youngest learners in mind, Young 5s offers a joyful, supportive start that builds confidence, strengthens early academic skills, and nurtures social growth—setting students up for success both in and out of the classroom. Want to learn more? Join UCS for a Kindergarten and Young 5s Preview Night to explore what makes these programs such a great first step in your child’s school journey.
PreK For All
The 2026-2027 PreK for All pre-application opens December 9, 2025. PreK for All is a free preschool program funded through the Michigan Department of Education. To be eligible for the 2026-2027 school year, children must be four years old on or before September 1, 2026.

BFV CALENDAR!
Every year UCS needs a NEW background check on file to volunteer
The new background check website can look a little confusing because it gives multiple options for different types of volunteering. Please don’t worry about those choices—just click any option and continue filling out the rest of the form.

Attendance Matters
On the day of absence, parent/guardian are asked to report an absence before the school day begins. Calls our absence line at 586-797-3999. Absences may also be reported by email at officebeck@uticak12.org. Please do not call the main line, use the absence line or report by email. Documentation or other verification may be required to establish an excused absence. Please review the Board Policy 5115 below for more information regarding student attendance.
Extended Absence, ex: Overseas travel
Our Attendance Policy (Student Handbook) allows families to request in writing pre-approval from the principal for a vacation of up to 10 school days. Absences beyond 10 days cannot be excused and are counted toward truancy.
We also want families to be aware that if a student reaches 20 or more absences in a school year, the district may be required to file truancy with the county. While we know that unique family circumstances come up, consistent attendance is one of the most important ways to support your child’s learning and connection to school.
If you anticipate an extended absence, please reach out to the school office and your child’s teacher so we can partner with you to best support your child during that time.
We appreciate your efforts to help your child be here every day possible—it truly makes a difference!
