Mustang Minute - 1st Day Reminders

MUSTANG MINUTE 9/3/26
Hello Morse Families!
Thank you to all of our families who joined us for Curriculum Night! We appreciate you taking the time to connect with our teachers, learn more about your child’s classroom, and partner with us for a successful school year. Your support and involvement are an important part of what makes the Morse community so special!
In terms of updates, I wanted to inform you that when the county emergency alarm sounded earlier today, we did institute our shelter in place protocol to ensure student safety. The district continued to monitor severe weather forecasts as we continued throughout the day. We practice these through drills every year, but with it being so early in the school year, we had not had the chance to complete this drill yet. I was very proud at how our Mustangs followed the directions of our staff as we transitioned in and out of this protocol.
Spelling Bee Interest – Grades 3–5
We are exploring interest in providing a Spelling Bee opportunity for students in grades 3–5. If your family would like more information or may be interested in participating, please take a moment to complete the Spelling Bee Survey link provided above.
Free & Reduced Lunch Application – Please Complete!
We also strongly encourage families to complete the Free & Reduced Lunch Application provided above, even if you are unsure whether your family will qualify. Information from these applications plays an important role in determining funding and resources available to both Morse and the Troy School District. Every completed application helps ensure our schools receive the resources available to support our students.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us start the year strong!
Media Center Help Needed
Our wonderful media center staff is looking for a few volunteers to help shelve books in order to keep the book check out process functioning efficiently. If you are willing and able to volunteer in this manner, please email Mrs. Jaime Lindstrom at jlindstrom@troy.k12.mi.us. Thank you in advance for considering it.
Pets on school grounds - last year we had numerous families walking their dogs with them to school. During the school day, pets are not allowed on school property (TSD policy). If you must walk your dog, please remain on the outside sidewalk along Cherry. There is a small section of grass between the parent loop and bus loop that you could stand on in order to not block the sidewalk.
Upcoming Important Events:
- Fri 9/4 & Mon 9/7 – No School Labor Day Weekend
- Tue 9/8 School resumes – Full day for all students
If you have any questions regarding the school or your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to our front office team.
Have a great extended weekend!
Your Proud Principal,
Mr. Keen
