September 2025

Dear District 25 Families,

The 2025–26 school year is here, and we are filled with excitement as we welcome our new and returning students. We look forward to a year of growth, learning, and meaningful connection.

As we begin this year together, we want to reaffirm that the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. Our safety and security efforts take a multi-layered approach, focusing on prevention, intervention, and response—always with the well-being of our school community at the center.

Emergency Operations Protocols

Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, District 25 has adopted the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) for school emergencies. This step, taken in partnership with the Arlington Heights Police Department, ensures a clear, consistent, and universal approach to emergency situations within our buildings and on school property.

All District 25 staff received training on the SRP in spring 2025, and the protocol will now be used in our safety drills moving forward. The SRP terminology—Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter—will be used when communicating during an emergency.

Safety Drills in District 25

Throughout the months of August and September, all District 25 schools will conduct safety drills to ensure students know what to do in the event of an emergency or incident. These drills prepare students and staff for situations such as a medical emergency, fire, severe weather, or lockdown. Practicing these procedures helps ensure that everyone can respond calmly and effectively in any situation. Look for more specific information from your school or principal about when your student’s drills will take place.

Safe2Help Illinois

District 25 participates in Safe2Help Illinois, a 24/7 confidential school safety helpline where students can share information that might prevent bullying, suicide, or campus violence. While we encourage students to reach out to a trusted adult whenever possible, Safe2Help provides another way to speak up through a mobile app, text, email, phone call, or online at Safe2Help.com.

Safe2Help information is printed on every student’s bus pass and inside their assignment notebook. Tips are immediately reviewed and, if needed, shared with school officials, mental health professionals, law enforcement, and emergency services. This resource is a valuable tool in connecting students with help before harm can occur.

Social Emotional Supports

We believe safety also means ensuring every student feels supported, connected, and cared for.

  • In-School Supports: Guidance services, social emotional learning (SEL) programs, and related services provide students with resources to navigate challenges, build resilience, and thrive both academically and emotionally.

  • Community Supports: Services like Care Solace (free, confidential mental health care coordination) and BEACON (statewide behavioral health resource) are available to students, families, and staff year-round.

See Something, Say Something

We regularly share the message: If you see something, say something. We encourage families to talk to their children about reporting anything concerning they encounter—whether in person or online—to a trusted adult or through Safe2Help.

Safety Meeting at Thomas on September 10, 2025 from 6 pm - 7 pm

We’re excited to host a Community Safety Night at Thomas Middle School on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, 6:00–7:00 p.m..

This event will focus on electronic bike and scooter safety, including local ordinances and expectations on school property. We’ll also highlight drop-off/pick-up routines and before- and after-school expectations. It’s a great opportunity to learn, ask questions, and connect.

You can learn more about District 25’s safety and security measures at www.sd25.org/Safe25.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our schools safe, supportive, and welcoming for all.
