Deer Hill Need to Knows
Absence Line & Email Address: 781-383-6115; DHS-notes@cohassetk12.org. Please note that students are responsible for knowing their dismissal plan each day. Any same day changes must be made by calling the office as teachers are not able to monitor their email while teaching.
Fall Benchmark Assessments and MCAS Scores: Fall benchmark assessments (iReady and DIBELS) will be available in Aspen on October 15th. As mentioned in our last newsletter, MCAS reports for 4th and 5th graders will be published in Aspen on October 17th. Teachers look forward to triangulating this data with their own classroom observations during conferences the week of October 20th.
PSO Fun Run: Deer Hill is excited for our upcoming Fun Run! Students are encouraged to wear blue or their favorite Cohasset swag. See the important dates below for the times when each grade level is running.
ADDED INCENTIVE! Principal Gaudette and I are upping the ante with some fun incentives if we reach these fundraising benchmarks:
- $15,000- Extra Recess and School-Wide Spirit Day (vote on theme)
- $30,000- Pie in the face gym teacher, principal, and maybe some other special guests
- $45,000- "What's in the Box Challenge" Assembly
October Is National Bullying Prevention Month: Deer Hill is committed to a safe, respectful, and responsible community every day, and October gives us a chance to set an important tone for the whole year. As a show of that commitment, we'll again participate in Unity Day on October 22nd. This is a day when we can come together to send a visible message of building commUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We encourage everyone to wear orange on this day!
Cradles to Crayons "Giving Factory": Are you going through your summer clothes and getting ready for fall? Gathering up adult and children's clothing (and shoes) to donate? If so, please consider holding onto those donations for our BIG Cradles to Crayons clothing drive that will officially begin the week of October 27th. On the morning of November 24th, the Deer Hill gym will become a Cradles to Crayons "Giving Factory" where students will participate in a clothing sort to support the work of this organization in a hands on way. More detailed information will be shared closer to the start of the drive. We need LOTS of donations, so spread the word!
October 31st Spirit Day Need to Knows: This week I visited every class to chat about our upcoming spirit day on 10/31. In addition to what's posted on this flyer, other need to knows we discussed are the fact that costumes may be "spooky" not "scary", and students may not dress up as characters from R-rated movies, above their age limit video games, or books that wouldn't be read in school. Students also know that there should be no gory or violent costumes. Props and accessories are discouraged. Students understand the goal is to have fun while following the Skipper Creed so that this can be the start of a new tradition! Wearing crazy hair, dressing in black and orange, or "dressing up" as a Deer Hill student are also great options. Thank you for your help!
