π¦ Happy Week 12 Locke Hill Families!
π Parent-Teacher Conferences:
If you have not yet scheduled a parent-teacher conference with your childβs teacher, please reach out to them through ClassDojo to schedule a time. These conferences are an important opportunity to discuss your childβs progress, celebrate successes, and work together to support their continued growth. We value your partnership and look forward to working together to help every Locke Hill Lion succeed! π¦
π Thank You for Our Literacy Pumpkin Project!
A huge thank-you to all the families who participated in our Literacy Pumpkin Project! We have loved seeing all the creative pumpkins, and it is clear that so many families had fun working on this project together. Thank you for supporting literacy and making reading fun! π
Our pumpkins will be judged this week by our Locke Hill PTA Board and displayed at Trunk or Treat on Thursday. Winners will be announced over dojo on Thursday and winners can pick-up their awards at Trunk or Treat. Families may pick up their pumpkins and take them home at the event!

π» Book Character Parade β Thursday, October 29, at 8:15 a.m.
We hope you will join us for our Book Character Parade this Thursday at 8:15 a.m.! We look forward to seeing our students bring their favorite book characters to life.
A few important reminders for families and students:
Visitor check-in: All parents and visitors must present a valid ID at the security window and obtain and wear a visitor badge.
Costume safety: Students may not bring any costume accessories that resemble weapons. Masks may only be worn during the parade.
Changing after the parade: If you would like your child to change out of their costume afterward, please send a change of clothes in their backpack and notify their teacher through ClassDojo.
π Learning Still Comes First!
We know this is an exciting time of year, filled with costumes, pumpkins, and fun celebrations! However, Thursday is still a day of learning. We expect all students to remain engaged, focused, and on task throughout the school day. We have lots of important learning to do, even during this festive season!
π―οΈ Our 1st Annual Locke Hill Ofrenda π§‘
We invite our Locke Hill families to participate in our 1st Annual Ofrenda by sending in a photograph of a loved one who has passed away and whom your family would like to honor and remember. This special tradition, celebrated during DΓa de los Muertos, allows us to remember those we love and celebrate the memories and traditions that keep their spirits alive in our hearts. Photos may be sent to school with your child. Thank you for helping us create a meaningful tribute that celebrates love, family, and remembrance. πΌππ§‘
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are grateful for our Locke Hill families and look forward to a wonderful week of learning, literacy, and fall fun!

HB1481
REMINDER: HB 1481 Regarding Personal Communication Devices
House Bill 1481 was passed in the state of Texas. This bill aims to reduce distractions in the classroom and promote a more focused learning environment. HB 1481 is a Texas bill that mandates school districts to implement policies prohibiting student use of personal communication devices during the school day. To ensure that we are abiding by this House Bill, please read below:
In accordance with HB1481, all personal communication devices are prohibited for student use during the school day while on school property. Personal communication devices include cell phones, personal tablets, and smartwatches. Any personal communication devices brought to school must be put away in a backpack and/or completely out of sight. Non-compliance may result in disciplinary action and the device may be confiscated and secured until a parent picks it up.
During school hours, if a parent/guardian needs to get a message to their student, they are welcome to call the office at 210-397-1600 and the message will be delivered to the student as soon as possible and in a manner that will not disrupt learning.
Stay Up-To-Date!

Attendance Requirements and Procedures
The Texas Attendance Compulsory Law states that students (even in PK and Kinder) must attend 90% of the school year in order to be considered for promotion to the next grade level. This means that students can not miss more than 17 days of school (excused and unexcused absences count towards the 17 absences).
Students who arrive after 9:00 a.m. are counted absent for the day. If you wake up late and your child is going to arrive after 9:00 a.m., we encourage you to still bring them so they do not fall behind in their academics.
If your child is absent from school, please email a note with the following information to myryam.vela@nisd.net:
-Student's first name and last name AND student ID number
-Student's grade level and teacher
-Date(s) of absence
-Reason for absence
-Parent Signature
If your child has to miss school for a doctor/dental appointment, have them attend part of the school day (before or after the appointment) and turn in a doctor/dental excuse note. They will be marked present and not absent for that day.
