What's Happening @ Wicker!
Autism Awareness Month
The entire month of April is Autism Awareness Month. At W. B. Wicker, we are taking this week to bring light to autism by celebrating Autism Awareness Week from March 31st - April 4th. We will celebrate with Spirit Days, a Parent Meeting, and an Autism Walk! We invite all families and community partners to join in with us to celebrate our students and bring awareness to inclusion not separation! Our EC Department has done a great job in preparing and providing lessons for teachers to work with all of our students to help them understand those that may be different from them. Thank you to our awesome EC Department for putting this all together and getting vendors to come out as well as securing valuable resources for our families and teachers to use! You Rock!
Month of the Military Child
W. B. Wicker is celebrating the children of our military families! As we all know military families move all the time due to being relocated all over the world. The closest base to us is Ft. Bragg, NC. We have a lot of parents who are military affiliated, therefore, we have some students who never have a chance to make and keep friends from year to year. We want to take the time to recognize them and let them know that we care about them always, not just during the month of April! We want to celebrate these incredible students who travel the world at all cost. We will celebrate Military Appreciation Week April 7th-11th (next week)! Look Spirit Day information to come out this week! Also, check out the update to our school website that is geared specifically to our Military Families and Students. As W. B. Wicker moves toward becoming a "Purple Star" School, we will be doing more to recognize our Military Families! We salute you!
Updates in Parent Portal (School Transportation Changes)
Beginning with the 2025-2026 School Year, all parents will be required to update your child's information and request school bus transportation through Parent Portal (Campus Parent). Scan the QR Code on the flyer to update your child's information and receive real-time notifications as well as track your child's progress.
A letter was sent home with each child (last week) that included a code that you will need to connect to Campus Parent if you have not done this process already. Again, this is how you will have to sign up for bus transportation next school year, please go ahead and get this completed now. If you need another copy of the letter with the code, please reach out to the school. We will print another letter and send it to you. You can also come to the front office and we can get you connected immediately! For more information, please contact Mrs. Miranda, our Data Manager.
Enjoy Lunch With Your Child!
Child Nutrition Reminders
We invite all families to come in a enjoy lunch with your child(ren) anytime you have a chance! Students love to have lunch with their parents, older siblings, grandparents, and other family members! However, we must follow Child Nutrition standards for consuming food inside the cafeteria. All students who eat in the cafeteria must have a school provided lunch. You are welcome to eat at the table in the connector or at the picnic tables outside of the cafeteria if you would like to bring in outside food as lunch for your child to eat. Again, they can eat the outside food, just not in the cafeteria. However, we have set up designated areas where you and them can enjoy lunch together!
Teacher Acknowledgements
Teacher of the Year- Mrs. Cynthia Gunter
Mrs. Gunter was voted on by her peers to be W. B. Wicker's 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year! She is a Kindergarten teacher who has been an amazing educator, mentor, and staff member! She also serves as the Kindergarten Chairperson and helps to coach new teachers as they navigate into the world of education post-pandemic! Her students will tell you everyday that she is "amazing"! Congratulations Mrs. Gunter!
Participate Teacher of the Year- Mrs. Carlene Green
Mrs. Green was chosen as W. B. Wicker's Participate Teacher of the Year! Although she is a visiting teacher, her peers wanted to recognize her for the hardwork that she does each day to ensure that all of her students and teachers around her are prepared each day! She challenges her students to go the extra mile and accepts no excuses! She holds each student accountable for their academic progress and helps them to understand and maximize their full potential.
Teacher Assistant of the Year- Ms. Jessica Jones
Congratulations to Ms. Jessica Jones on being chosen by her peers as the 2025-2026 Teacher Assistant of the Year! Ms. Jones has really worked hard this year in the classroom as well as on the bus to ensure the safety of the students as well as the academic progress of the students of W. B. Wicker. She is the Teacher Assistant who works alongside Mrs. Williams in first grade and has recently taken on the role of being a lead teacher in another classroom. She drives multiple routes on the bus as she also helps to transport our afterschool tutoring students. She steps in to help where she sees a need, where she's asked to go, and sometimes ends up being out of her own classroom for the day while ensuring that the needs of the building are being met.
