Hello Cougar Families!
Halloween Parade
Halloween is upon us! Next week we will be having a parade at 8:45 to kick off the day. If you would like to come watch the craziness (and cuteness) of our parade, please line up from the front of our building, around the south side (in the bus loop). We will be starting in the gym and walking out the door by our preschool. Afterward our students will have a little party in their class. At 10:00 the parties will end and the kiddos will change out of their costumes to resume our day, so please send a change of clothing that day.
Costume Information:
No weapons (even fake ones),
No face paint
Make sure that all clothing/costumes follow our dress code.
Kindergarten Registration Is Here!
Can you believe it? It's already time for Kindergarten Registration for the 2026-2027 school year! If you have friends or neighbors with little ones who will be starting Kindergarten next year, we would be grateful if you put in a good word for us here at CME.
We are excited to welcome new families, especially those from the Firelight area, as our boundaries have expanded due to the consolidation of Heritage and Summit View.
I'm ready to play tour guide! If anyone you know is considering our amazing neighborhood school and would like to see what we are all about, please have them call our front office. Michelle will happily schedule a tour on my calendar. Thank you for helping us spread the word!
CME Art
Check out some of our great Art projects from our students (see below)! Thanks to Mrs. Burke for her hard work in helping our little artist make beautiful projects. She also takes the time to display the art around our school!
Warm wishes,
Candice

ELEMENTARY ASSESSMENT DATES -
Please check out the dates for the Elementary Assessments!
5th & 6th Grade Universal Screen
As part of this process, ALL students in 5th & 6th grade not identified for gifted programming will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) the week of November 3, 2025. This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates. These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.
Gifted Identification Referral Testing
If your child is in grades 3 and 4, and you believe they need evaluation for Gifted Identification and Services, you may refer your child for testing by initiating the Gifted Identification Process.
Please reach out to Heather Stinnett @ hlstinnett@dcsdk12.org (CME GT Facilitator) as your first step.
The process:
Request CogAT testing for your child by completing the Referral for Gifted Identification linked HERE. (Please reach out to Heather Stinnett before completing this step.)
NOTE: Requesting this assessment automatically initiates the process to evaluate for Gifted Identification.
Upon receipt of this form the Gifted Education Facilitator will connect with you to discuss next steps in the gifted identification process.
