📚The Library Lowdown

June, 2022 Issue 24

📚The LibraryLowdownJune, 2022 Issue 24
Join the fun and keep reading all summer long with 4J's summer reading challenge, "Stay on Track"! Inspired by the World Track and Field Championships coming to Hayward Field in July, this challenge encourages students to read at least ten minutes a day throughout the summer. Elementary students can log their reading in Beanstack, an app downloadable on any device, and can log in with their 4J username and password or via Clever. Middle school students, and elementary students without access to Beanstack, can log minutes on this printable reading log and turn it in via this Google form by September 9th.

The top six schools with the most minutes will earn books for their school's library and the top twenty students will earn books for their classroom library. This letter to families has all the information and resources to get students started. Reach out to Amy Page (page_a@4j.lane.edu) if you have any questions.

Willagillespie 2nd Graders Help Pets Get Adopted at Greenhill!

Lisa Robbins', 2nd grade class at Willagillespie, teamed up with Greenhill Humane Society to help get animals adopted! Amy Page met up with Megan Burroughs, Greenhill's Community Engagement & Humane Education Director, to record a virtual field trip introducing students to the animals available for adoption at Greenhill. Ms. Robbins' class watched the field trip, chose an animal, and then wrote a persuasive letter to encourage people to adopt them. Their writing and artwork turned out fabulous! They are currently on display at Greenhill (see image below) and you can get an up-close and personal look at their work here.

If you're interested in partnering on writing, reading, and/or community service projects, reach out to Amy Page (page_a@4j.lane.edu).
