Busing Concerns Busing Concerns

We want to acknowledge the busing concerns that have been frustrating and inexcusable to start the school year. We empathize with you and want you to know we are doing everything we can to address the situation.

At the school level, we have little control over transportation. All of the hiring, training, routes, drivers, etc. are managed at the district level. Our main focus at the school level is making sure kids get on the bus, dealing with behaviors that occur, and communicating with you as parents when there are delays.

While we understand some of the "why" behind the issues we've been having (a new app that wasn't talking to our district system correctly, new routes created by the new app, a shortage of drivers, etc.), we are as frustrated as many of you are.

We commit to you that we will:

  • Send a text if buses are leaving the school more than 15 minutes after the bell rings. Unfortunately, at this time, we only have the ability to send the text to the entire school. We have been told we will have to ability to send texts to individual bus parents within a week or so. We will not send a notification if transportation tells us they have already notified parents.
  • Provide supervision in the afternoons to help students get on the correct bus.
  • Act as a liaison between parents and transportation to address concerns.

What you can do:

  • We typically try to act as the middle man so transportation doesn't get flooded with calls. However, if you have an emergency, or if there is something especially egregious you need addressed, feel free to reach out to transportation at 801-402-7500.

School Guardians School Guardians

To enhance the safety of our students and staff, our school is implementing the Utah School Guardian Program, which is part of a new state law.

This program requires an armed individual to be on campus during school hours. We are currently seeking qualified and committed volunteers to serve as School Guardians. These individuals are non-teaching staff members or volunteers who have completed a psychological evaluation and passed a thorough background check. They will also receive extensive training from law enforcement on firearms proficiency, de-escalation tactics, and medical response.

By having a School Guardian on site, we can ensure a rapid response to any potential threat and provide an additional layer of security for our school community.

Please contact Brian Nash at bnash@dsdmail.net if you are interested in knowing more.

We have a digital kindness wall that is taking over the main TV by the lunchroom.

  • The purpose of the kindness wall is to recognize the great things others are doing and spread positivity.

  • Submissions are limited to teachers, staff, and parents. At this time, we are not opening submissions to students.

  • If you are submitting something about a student, please don't use the student's last name. You may use a picture of the student.

  • To submit a kind comment, click on this link and scroll to the bottom of the page: https://youuplift.com/mountain-view-elementary-wsu-kindness-wall/

  • All submissions are sent for approval before being displayed.
